It is official, we will be launching a Christian school here in Costa Rica for the 2013 school year.
Much more info to come later!

Tonight the wife preached in Spanish, then she translated herself!
I guess that's what happens when your translator doesn't show up for Wednesday night service...ha! Only in Latin America!! Yesterday I had the privilege of preaching at church. I taught on the biblical value of honor - honor for God, honor for our pastor...honor for one another.
At the end of the service, an old man (who has been there once or twice before) came up to Brigit and me and asked a question that really made me think....he asked for some coffee. Not a cup of coffee, but the remaining half of a pot of coffee that was made for the people at church. Unfortunately, I had just dumped it out and cleaned the pot as we were preparing to leave. This gentleman was not looking for a casual "cup of Joe"; he was looking to take it home because he is so desparately poor that this would be an integral part of his "food" consumption for the day. Of course the man was able to speak with Rosalina - the gal who is charge of the Hands of Mercy ministry at the church. She gave him some rice and beans... I have learned that a million people starve to death everyday in the world. I want to do more to help the poor... So this morning, as you have your daily cup of coffee, think about those in the world who won't have enough to eat today. Try to find a way to make a difference in their lives! (PS - I have also learned that the beans and rice pantry at our church is almost always out of stock - if you would like to make a donation to help fill the shelves, visit our website and put a note that says "Hands of Mercy" on the Paypay form.) Thanks! We had a great time at the conference this weekend. God is leading our steps as we continue to seek His face.
We only want His will for our lives, and the lives of our children. Going forward - our children will be using a Christian curriculum for the next school year, and we very well might be opening a Christian school. There are many details to work out, and we are going to need some help (as in some missionaries to come down here and help us!), but we know that God is leading - so He will provide all of the necessary resources to pull it off! More info to come soon! Thanks for your prayers! I am told that there was 6.6 earthquake last night up in the northern part of CR - we didn't feel it...PTL!
BUT! Brigit and I will be going to conference in San Jose on Saturday and we are expecting the Lord to speak to us in a mighty way....quite frankly, I think it will be an "earthquake" for us spiritually. We have some direction about what He wants us to do over the next year, but we need a few more things to fall in place before we jump in with both feet. I believe we will know after this conference the exact steps we are to take next. So we ask you to pray for us, and for our kids who will be staying at a friend's house this weekend. PS - one more prayer request: we are trying to secure a one year lease on a house in town closer to our office - please join us in prayer that there will be no "hiccups" in the process. THANKS! I get to preach this morning because Pastor Payton is in the US - today I will be preaching about the Harvest.
Why is it that we read scriptures like Luke 6:38 "Give and and it shall be given unto you...." and we say - oohh - that one is for me! Then we read Matt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit..." and say, ahh - that verse is for missionaries. If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, then BOTH verses apply to you! Think about that ;-) The above photo is of a bathroom in our office building for TOFM. It cracks me up because it is totally made for little kids.
Miniature sink, short soap dispenser - the works! I am always impressed by the value Costa Rican people put on family. In the same way, God loves the children. I believe this is one reason He has put in our hearts to minister to the children of this community. If we as believers can sow the Word of God into the hearts of these young ones they will become CHAMPIONS for the Kingdom of God! Have a great Saturday! This photo does NOT do justice to the amount of rain we have had coming down for the last 12 hours. I am seriously considering building an ark. If the Pizotes and Boa Constrictors start showing up 2 by 2, I am going to grab my hammer and some wood!
It has been a few days since I posted last because our schedule has been a little crazy. Kids had day off of school on Monday, we drove to Panama on Tuesday (that was an experience ;-) and have been very busy with work all day yesterday. The best part is that we have had multiple opportunities to share the Gospel with people -- people that have some real issues in life and Jesus is the only answer! God is so good! We made an absolute DIVINE connection on our drive back from Panama. We were stuck in a constrution traffic jam and I noticed this church off of the side of the road. This is a big deal here because you just don't see that many evangelical churches around. Long story short, we met the Pastor and his family and spent over an hour with them sharing about the visions the Lord has given us for ministry in Costa Rica. There is a chance Brigit and I will go to a conference with them next weekend to learn about a Bible-based school curriculum that they use at their church school. Our hope for a school and the Evangelistic Training Center may be closer than we think...time will tell! God only knows what He is doing in my Brigit's life! Today she was called to translate the preacher into English. That may sound simple, but when a native Spanish-speaking preacher gets into the anointing - he talks FAST!
She did an awesome job - I am very proud of her! Have a great day! My laptop just gave me the official black screen of death - "Read failure on internal hard drive."
I knew we needed to get a new laptop soon, but wasn't prepared for this soon. Nothing is impossible with God and He will meet our needs in an amazing way. I don't know how...but I declare "MacBook Pro, you are on your way into my hands!" Gloria a Dios! |
