My pastor down here in CR lent me a book to read - Radical by David Platt. I am only into chapter 2, but the author has confirmed many things I already know and believe.
For example - there are still over a billion people on the planet who have yet to hear the Gospel. Books like this fire me up. Again, I am only in chapter 2, but so far it is a recommended read for you! BTW - we are starting to get folks signed up for the February mission trip! Check out the short term mission link on our site for more info!

Yes, Costa Rica is beautiful...but as they say..."it ain't always easy."
While preparing to move to a new house, Brigit discovered that mold had decided to grow on some of our things...NASTY! We know that God has called us here, and we really do LOVE it - but not every day is "peaches." But isn't that the case no matter where you live? For one more example, our kids didn't get to heat up their lunch at school today. Not because someone stole the microwave - no - someone stole the power lines to their school! They didn't have fans all day - let's just say they were hot! But they did have a great attitude. It seems like we run into people every single day that desparately need the Lord. So many people here are into New Age, Budhism and Catholocism. We know that God has an awesome plan for each of them, and we are excited to help them start a true, living relationship with Jesus! Thanks for your prayers! When it rains in Costa Rica - IT RAINS! Our house is up on the side of a mountain, and I have to drive across a creek every day to get to and from town. Well, yesterday it had rained HARD for about 4 hours and the creek was extremely swollen. When I realized that I wouldn't be driving through the rushing water for at least an hour, I remembered a bridge some of the local guys use when the creek is flooded. Upon further inspection, I made the decision to wait it out - the old wooden bridge was not my idea of safe travel. Can you believe these guys drive cars and pick-ups across this thing every day? I am going with the old passage, "thou shalt not tempt the Lord It is a tremendous feeling when you know that God is with you, helping you, leading you, and guiding you in your life. This is how I feel right now! I can't begin to tell you how grateful I feel for His presence in my life, and the life of my family.
God has provided our office space in Uvita, and we've now got the tables and chairs we need to do some business here! We're getting to know the people in our community, and seeing lots of needs. The needs of the people here are extensive...many need food, clothing, and other basic things. Many, many more need the joy and peace that only God can bring. You can be right in the middle of paradise...literally paradise...but still be quite unhappy and hopeless. Many people need jobs down here...we have prayed and asked God to help us to create jobs. Every day, we think of possible business ideas. We simply need the right ideas at the right time. The key is for us to be investing time in the way that God chooses. Scott repeatedly feels that God is leading him to have a mass evangelism crusade in a small town, north of Uvita, along the highway. The town is called Guapil. All things in due time. Thank you for praying with us--we are happy to be in the center of God's will for our family! The Lord connected us with some missionaries who had planted a church in San Jose (the capitol) who were preparing to move home. Even though we only raised a portion of our goal, they felt the Holy Spirit lead them to sell us the truck for the amount of money we had raised.
This was a HUGE miracle because we gave them about 70% of what the vehicle is really worth down here. It has already been a tremendous testimony to those around us. GOD IS GOOD! Some of you may have noticed that our website has been down since Friday, so we haven't been able to post any updates...all is fixed and we should be able to keep you more up to date now. Thank you for your prayers! We will send out a newsletter soon! Muchas bendiciones ustedes! (Many blessings to you all!) |
