As I was leaving the municipality today to pay for our license to be able to teach in Costa Rica, this guy approached me and asked for a ride...I said yes. As we drove the 20 minutes up the highway to his village (all in Spanish by the way), we talked about his life. Of course, we began to talk about "spiritual things" and I learned that this guy loves God with all of his heart! He went on to tell me about his church and how his congregation has suffered some persecution. It was quite a story. I asked him to take me to his church so that I could know where they meet for services....(see below) Just in case you have a crazy idea of what a church looks like - it's not the building. The church is made up of God's children who want to make Him known...I am proud to be a part of the Body of Christ - the church!

His WORD is going forth into the hearts of these young people! We are finished with our fourth week of school! Wow - time flies when you keep this pace!
God is so good - we have had TOFM Partners sponsor work stations and a water cooler for our school. His provision is always right on time! Before the school year began, we knew that we were going to love the program. Honestly - we had NO IDEA how much we would love the curriculum! Our students are learning the word of God as well as math, english, science, social studies, literature and creative writing - IT IS AMAZING! We are so blessed to have had a few friends come down recently, and we have more coming in the near future! Just know that things are happening down here - amazing things. Keep us in your prayers! (Above photo is Cristy praying for Abby before she takes a test...that wouldn't happen in a public school today...but it happens at Uvita Christian Academy!) Last week was our first full week of school - and it was sincerely AWESOME!
We are up to 9 students now, and things are really moving smoothly. We are still hoping for another 10 students, but we trust that God is in control and bringing us the right children at the right time. We had chapel on Friday, and I (Scott) had the chance to pour the vision of reaching the lost into these young people! It was awesome to see their faces light up with a real sense of purpose! If you want to see some ways you can help with the school, check out this link. I have been reading 2 Samuel in the mornings - I was really struck this morning by King David's love for The Lord, but also by his fear of The Lord.
I believe I need to have a healthy balance of both in my life, inviting the ark (Holy Spirit) to be ever-present in every area of my life. We have been working some long hours preparing for this school, and I see how important it is for the grace of God to be on you in order to accomplish His will. It is going to be an amazing year! I pray that you seek His face today and gain a new level of understanding of the fear of The Lord as I do...be blessed my friends! We just arrived home after three days of intense training for our new school. We had homework every night - it was a FULL immersion experience!
I truly believe this training has equipped us to be ready for school to start a week from Monday. To top off a great week, the curriculum for our first five students showed up today! We are so pumped for the year to begin. Thank you for all of your prayers...God is moving! We had a couple over to our house tonight for dinner. Jesus lost his job yesterday but has decided to go full-time with his side job - selling cleaning products.
We had the privilege of helping them with a sign for the farmer's market tomorrow - please pray for God's blessing on his new business venture. He is a hard-working young man and we believe in him! When David was on the run from King Saul he had more than once chance to take Saul out, but didn't.
He had an understanding of honoring authourity that I hope to have one day - wow! He was really amazing... We are really excited down here - we have multiple children taking the diagnostic test for our school. We have five students signed up right now, with the potential of another seven to sign up by the end of the week! Please be in agreement in prayer with us that these kiddos will ALL be a part of our school this year. Blessings my friends! Psalm 5:12 "For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield."
I am praying this verse over our ministry and school this week. The Lord has put a "force-field" of favor around TOFM like a giant bubble - watch with me and see how He is going to bless His work down here in CR! I know that His mighty right hand is on this school; our heart is to train up young people to be righteous in His eyes. I am thankful for what He is going to do! Please join me in prayer for these items: 10 more students for the school Funding for school supplies 10 used laptops More monthly financial partners for TOFM THANK YOU! |
