***Below is an excerpt from a new book I’m writing called, “Mistaken Identity: God is Not Your Problem.”
Chapter 2: God is Good…but wait…is He? So, why is it hard for people to believe that God is a good God? Why do Christian people have such a hard time seeing and believing this truth? Throughout the Bible, beginning in the Old Testament and continuing through the New Testament, we see promise after promise of God doing amazing things for the people He loves! We see him showing favor (Genesis 12:1-2), meeting needs (Philippians 4:19), and promising that He listens to the prayers we pray and that He answers them (Mark 11:24)! So when something bad or difficult happens, why do people forget about all of that and exchange the truth for a lie? How is that so easy to do? In other words, why do we automatically assume God is behind the inconvenience? Why do we assume it’s Him doing something to test us or teach us? Where exactly does that idea come from? Start listening to the conversation around you on purpose—it always amazes me that believers will go to bat for things like an early death, personal poverty, general failure in life, and so many other ideas that go against the nature and desire of our EXTREMELY GOOD God. How do I know they feel this way? Because I listen to what people say. I like to observe Christians and non-Christians in my daily life…no matter where I am. I like to listen to the kinds of things they say, but especially when they’re talking about God, and their perception of what He’s like. I pay a lot of attention because I have a deep passion to dispel all the nasty rumors about Him, and Who He really is. There are times when I’m not even TRYING to do it! But it’s often like the Holy Spirit (who lives inside me) will CAUSE me to hear certain comments and ideas people share. Again, I’m talking about believers who are committed to God, AND those who are not. But both groups matter quite a bit, because if someone thinks God is a jerk (someone who’s bent on his personal failure, and is nothing more than an obscure being waiting to swat him down when he makes a mistake) there can be no desire to belong to Him. There will be no longing for the Father of Lights (James 1:17), who LOVES human beings so much that He sent His own Son, Jesus, to experience hell in their place. Let’s read it below. Every good gift and every perfect…gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light… (James 1:17 AMPC). This is just one verse among many, many verses that share the same idea, but it alone tells the story! Good and perfect gifts come from God—not the ugly and difficult situations that are hard to bear. Would you do bad things to your kids or grandkids? I think not! Well, God is the same—He wouldn’t serve up an ugly situation to one of His kids on purpose either. If you wouldn’t do it to yours, you can KNOW that He wouldn’t do it to you! Leámoslo a continuación.

These are dangerous times, for a lot of different reasons…there is TROUBLE in the world today like we’ve never seen it before. Divorce is at an all-time high, leaving kids stranded emotionally…they’re depressed, anxious, worried, and vow never to get married because of what they went through when their parents split up. Suicide is rampant in most every age group, but especially in our younger generations. Even though we’re more connected than ever through FaceBook and Instagram, we’ve never been farther apart emotionally and in the ways that matter in a society. People need face-to-face community and connection, and to feel like they belong. Dads are dipping out on their families, leaving the wives of their youth for a younger, less wrinkled version of the ideal woman. They are leaving a generation fatherless and forlorn. Moms leave too sometimes. Substance use and abuse is sky-rocketing, especially the use of recreational drugs like marijuana. Making it legal to smoke marijuana isn’t doing us any favors. It can act like a depressant that steals motivation and dumbs down its users, leaving them unmotivated and short on aspiration. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and what it can do to young people who get caught in its clutches. We need to be clear on the things of God more than ever before! We need to have the truth about this topic, and find out Who God really is, and what He’s about. If you mistakenly think God is out there doing bad things, then it impacts your whole life…the way you see God, the way you view life in general, and what you perceive to be the will of God. Because of all the problems raging in today’s world, we need God more than ever before! So we can’t afford to know less than the absolute truth. If any generation feels like He’s against them instead of for them, they will never turn to Him to get the help they need. I don’t mean to sound dreadful or terrifying at all, but this is a topic that deserves a closer look. ***Below is an excerpt from a new book I’m writing called, “Mistaken Identity: God is Not Your Problem.”
Somewhere along the line, people have been taught that God “took Aunt Suzy” when she died of cancer after a long battle. Or they heard that when a person dies before his time, it’s because “God needed another flower in His garden.” That might sound corny to you, but I’ve heard it said like that before. These erroneous ideas bring confusion into peoples’ lives and prevent them from coming to God. After all, how can you love and trust someone if you think they’re doing bad things to you covertly? That would be like a soldier in battle getting friendly fire from his fellow soldiers. There are Bible teachers that address our topic head on. I’ve searched them out and listened to them over the years. It took time for me to adjust my thinking to align with the truth that God is GOOD, but I’m finally there. There are very few Bible teachers who have rightly divided the Word of God in this area. There are so many who are determined to accuse God of doing things He never did do. As you read, remember this…I’m nice, and I’m not putting anyone down. We’ve all believed wrong things at one point or another in life. I will probably be stepping on some toes as you read, but please don’t close my book. Please at least read what I believe the Holy Spirit is saying right now to the Body of Christ, and also to those who are not yet right with God. ***Below is an excerpt from a new book I’m writing called, “Mistaken Identity: God is Not Your Problem.”
Well, in my 20+ years of being born again and committed to the will of God in my life, I’ve seen a disturbing trend. It’s a trend that pushes people away from God, instead of drawing them close. Most people in the world, not to mention many who are born again, are pretty confused about the character of God. They don’t really understand who He is, what He does, and who THEY ARE in Christ because of what He did by sending His Son to the earth. Now don’t you dare be offended with me for saying that! There was a time when I was really mixed up about all this too. There are definitely some tough questions out there when it comes to “why bad things happen to good people.” But I will meet his question head on, and more like it, here in this book. I didn’t even realize it, but I was so deceived in my early days of serving God. I mistakenly thought He was behind all the horrible and depressing things going on in the world today. I assumed He was behind the supposed “Acts of God” mentioned in insurance documents…things like tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and storms. I thought He made people sick, or at least allowed it. •I thought he was keeping Christians poor, so they could learn humility. •I supposed that He purposefully caused them to go through hard times of various kinds in order to teach them something. But I was wrong. Maybe you’ve been there too. Maybe you even learned some of those things at a church you went to. It’s out there for sure, and it’s far too common in Christian circles. In fact, there are people who don’t even want to hear the Name of Jesus or go to church to check out the things of God, because they think God is the bad guy. ***Below is an excerpt from a book I’m writing called, “Mistaken Identity: God is Not Your Problem.”
Let’s not mistake God for the true enemy of all that’s good, the devil. You should read the verses I write below, because in just a few words, Jesus sums up the kind of God He is, and the purpose of the god of this world, the devil: The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I (Jesus) came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). John 10:10 I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd risks and lays down His [own] life for the sheep. John 10:11 I’ll never forget the first time I heard the late Billy Jo Daugherty say these words… “The Word of the Lord is, God is not your problem!” I got my hands on a series of audio messages he shared in several Sunday morning services at his church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I had seen it advertised on a Christian channel after one of his TV programs aired, and I figured I could use it. Little did I know, it would change the course of my thinking. I was in a desperate time in life, completely confused about Who God really is. Maybe I should say it like this…there were some bad things happening to me, and I had heard a well-known Bible teacher imply that God might be trying to teach me something through the mess. Well, that pill was kind of hard to swallow, because “the mess” was right in my face. My life was spinning out of control, and fast. No one knew how to help me get out of my pit – my pit of despair, anxiety, fear, insomnia, and the like. This particular teacher implied that God might be doing it to me, or at least allowing it to happen in my life. I felt like her words literally tore my spirit in half. I suddenly felt more confusion than ever before, even considering that God could be the one allowing such mental torment and hurt to implode upon me. How could that be? And worse, if it was true, it birthed all kinds of other questions that seemed to settle like a storm cloud over my mind. In other words, it birthed doubts in my heart and mind like I had never known before…It went something like this: “Well, Brigit, if God is allowing this horrible experience to teach you something, how do you know when He’s done? And how do you know when you’ve learned enough?” That question was just the tip of the iceberg. I thought I had signed up for the right team when I gave my life to Jesus a few years before…in fact, I knew I made the right decision. But all of that came into question when one of my BIGGEST struggles met the answer I got from a Bible teacher who wasn’t rightly dividing the Word of God. (And for the record, I’m not mad at her and I certainly don’t hold a grudge – we are all doing our best to rightly divide and understand the Bible and the promises inside). But at the time, it was truly traumatic for me. Thank goodness Pastor Billy Jo swooped in at just the right time! His words were sweet like honey, to be honest. Just to hear him so clearly speak about the goodness of God, and to clarify for me all the bad information I had heard about the kinds of things God is responsible for in the earth…it changed my course, and laid a firm foundation for the other things God would show me over time to help me climb out of my pit. ¿Y cómo sabes si has aprendido lo suficiente? |
