Don’t Be Offended, but… / No quiero que te ofendas, pero...

***Below is an excerpt from a new book I’m writing called, “Mistaken Identity: God is Not Your Problem.”
 
Well, in my 20+ years of being born again and committed to the will of God in my life, I’ve seen a disturbing trend. It’s a trend that pushes people away from God, instead of drawing them close. Most people in the world, not to mention many who are born again, are pretty confused about the character of God. They don’t really understand who He is, what He does, and who THEY ARE in Christ because of what He did by sending His Son to the earth.
 
Now don’t you dare be offended with me for saying that! There was a time when I was really mixed up about all this too. There are definitely some tough questions out there when it comes to “why bad things happen to good people.” But I will meet his question head on, and more like it, here in this book.
 
I didn’t even realize it, but I was so deceived in my early days of serving God. I mistakenly thought He was behind all the horrible and depressing things going on in the world today. I assumed He was behind the supposed “Acts of God” mentioned in insurance documents…things like tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and storms. I thought He made people sick, or at least allowed it.
 
•I thought he was keeping Christians poor, so they could learn humility.
•I supposed that He purposefully caused them to go through hard times of various kinds in order to teach them something. But I was wrong.
 
Maybe you’ve been there too. Maybe you even learned some of those things at a church you went to. It’s out there for sure, and it’s far too common in Christian circles. In fact, there are people who don’t even want to hear the Name of Jesus or go to church to check out the things of God, because they think God is the bad guy.

En mis más de 20 años de ser cristiana y comprometida con la voluntad de Dios en mi vida, he visto una tendencia inquietante. Es una tendencia que aleja a las personas de Dios, en lugar de acercarlas. La mayoría de las personas en el mundo, y también muchos de los cristianos, estánbastante confundidos acerca del carácter de Dios. Realmente no entienden quién es Él, qué hacey quiénes SON ELLOS en Cristo debido a lo que hizo al enviar a Su Hijo a la tierra.
 
¡Espero que todavía estemos amigos! Hubo un tiempo en el que yo también estaba muyconfundida con todo esto. Definitivamente, existen algunas preguntas difíciles cuando se trata de "por qué le suceden cosas malas a la gente buena.” Pero afrontaré esta pregunta directamente, y otras preguntas parecidas, aquí en este libro.
 
Ni siquiera me di cuenta, pero estaba muy engañada en mis primeros días de servicio a Dios. Pensé erróneamente que Él estaba detrás de todas las cosas horribles y deprimentes que sucedenen el mundo de hoy. Supuse que Él estaba detrás de los supuestos “Actos de Dios” mencionadosen los documentos de seguros… cosas como tornados, huracanes, inundaciones y tormentas. Pensé que Él enfermaba a la gente, o al menos lo permitía.
 
•Pensé que estaba manteniendo a los cristianos pobres, para que pudieran aprender la humildad.
•Supuse que Él intencionalmente les hizo pasar por momentos difíciles de diversos tipos para enseñarles algo. Pero estaba equivocada.
 
Quizás tú también hayas estado allí. Tal vez aprendiste estas mismas ideas erróneas en unaiglesia a la que asististe. Seguramente existe y es demasiado común en los círculos cristianos. De hecho, hay personas que ni siquiera quieren escuchar el Nombre de Jesús o ir a la iglesia a investigar las cosas de Dios, porque piensan que Dios es el malo.
