Messages From the Bogards ...

December 2019
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!
As 2019 draws to a close, our hearts are filled with warm memories of the year, and bright hope for the one to come.
Above everything we are grateful to all of you for standing with us as we endeavor to do what God has asked us to! We understand that you make sacrifices to give, and that it comes from your hearts. We make no mistake - we understand that we carry a huge responsibility, and we are grateful for your trust…not only with your money, but also trusted to educate children in the important country of Costa Rica. We never take it lightly.
So, from our hearts to yours, enjoy this beautiful time of year - be good to your family, appreciate them, and love them lavishly!
The great catching away of the church could happen at any time, and we should live every day with purpose. As a good friend of mine always says, “I wake up every morning and try to help, in some way, every person I come into contact with - I try to do something intentionally to help them.” May we all live with the same motivation, not only this time of year, but all year long!

August 2019
I am happy to report that we have found a replacement teacher for Brigit. The new teacher will be here September 23rd! This is great in so many ways because some of her duties are not being fulfilled in the office right now. I cover what I can, but I have my own role to fulfill - it is has been an adventure to say the least!
In addition, we are excited to welcome Angela Fontanelli to our school. She is an experienced teacher who has been serving the Lord in Mexico for two years. Angela is now in charge of our first, second and third grade classroom - we are so grateful she is here.
My main focus is the acquisition of land for our new school. I work on this almost daily. It is truly the next step for our school - we are busting at the seams right now.
As Pastor Leonard Enloe used to say, "you can't drive a parked car!" So I am taking the steps I can so that the Lord can give me correction as we move forward on this project. Please keep this in your prayers - to do this new construction right, it will take a $1million budget. No big deal for our BIG God!
Thanks for your love and support - it means the world to us! ~ Scott

December 2018
A very Merry Christmas to you!
This is always my favorite time of year…
We finished the school year at UCA on December 7th, and at Victory Christian Academy on December 14th. At UCA, we had a grand celebration to congratulate all of our Kindergarten and 6th grade graduates from the 2018 school year. (In Costa Rica, finishing Kinder and 6th grade are a really big deal - many kids don’t go on to any higher education after grade 6.)
Parents, family, and friends attended our ceremony as we handed out awards, talked about the highlights of the school year, prayed for everyone, and said goodbye. It was a lovely time, and I breathed a sigh of relief as we put away the last chair. (We have to bring tables, chairs, and everything else outside of the school to set up whenever we host events.) At Victory, there was a Christmas celebration on the last day but no event like at UCA because that school only has students up to 3rd grade.
Scott and I are really thankful for all the goodness of God in 2018 - ministry to parents, kids, teachers, and people in TWO DIFFERENT communities - the Holy Spirit always assures me that we’re making a big splash. And you’re a part of it! Without you, none of it would be possible…sincerely! Our Father is certainly making His mark in the southern zone of Costa Rica.
I told the Lord again this morning as I took a walk outside that I would keep working hard to do what He’s called us to do overseas…this was big for me, because sometimes I feel a little worn out. I also told him that I would keep working hard to honor what our ministry partners have invested in us through their giving…shelling out YOUR hard-earned money to support the work of God in Costa Rica. And I meant it - thank you for trusting us and for your giving!
More and more, I’m convinced that our schools are sort of like a “pit-stop” for kids from non-Christian families…some kids aren’t with us for more than a couple of months, but within that time, they have a chance to hear about Jesus and who He is…some get saved, and others don’t, but we KNOW that the seed of God’s Word is planted in them and that it WILL yield a future harvest. I know it. It is obvious that many of these kids would have no other way of hearing the truth - God knows what He’s doing by placing us here.
***Please don’t forget about end of the year giving toward the land we need to acquire for building our own school in Uvita - we continue to do what’s necessary to receive our approval from the Costa Rican ministry of education, and we have to have our own building to do it! We believe that the right land is ours, by faith, and we are taking all the steps we can toward making it happen.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for standing with us! We remember you this holiday season.

November 2018
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This is the time of year when I miss home the most - I have visions of turkeys, Christmas lights, and yummy Christmas cookies dancing in through my head! And, we miss our family at the same time. Down in Central America, it’s starting to get really hot again, so it feels like the farthest thing from Christmas - ha!
During this season of showing gratitude, we want to show gratitude for you! We NEVER take for granted the money you give, and the prayers you pray for us. And, we need them! We are on the edge of great things, including acquiring land for our wonderful school in Uvita…it’s time for a change. More than ever, we want to be in a more secure location, where we can build and design our school in the most safe and effective way to teach and train our students. We also need new space due to the Costa Rican MEP approval that we need, to continue growing as a school. More growth means more lives impacted for the Gospel!
In our current location, in the center of town, they just paved our road - finally! But it’s good and bad…because now, there is such a drop off between the side of the new road and our school parking area that parents are complaining about it. The road used to be level with the parking area, and now the uneven surfaces are very difficult to drive on. Also, we recently had a family decide not to enroll because they felt our property was not safe enough for their daughter - there’s no fence around our school. The building we rent also needs countless repairs; however, our landlord doesn’t see it as a good cause to invest in that. That’s his decision, and we bless him! But God has something better!
Building on our own, new property would eliminate all of these issues! So, we humbly ask you to pray with us as we believe God to take our next step! You see, Scott had a meeting this last week with the owner of the land we want to buy; he loved our school, and was impressed with what God is doing through our teachers. He even agreed to take a little bit of money each month, as long as we make a big down payment to start.
We are going to use our faith to see this new project happen - we know “the just shall live by faith!” Thank you for believing with us!

Hello! I sincerely hope this message finds you doing well!
Since the last time I wrote to you, we were able to see family in the United States, and to visit some churches to share about our schools and English classes in Costa Rica. We had the chance to visit four churches in central Indiana, in addition to visiting our home church, Faith Community Church on the south side of Indianapolis. As we traveled, Scott and I shared about Costa Rica, and taught the Word of God to the people there. This is something we love to do! We’ve learned so much since starting a new life overseas, and it means a lot to be trusted to share what we’ve learned with others. It is a BIG responsibility!
We got to spend some time with our family, too, and this was really important to us. We don’t travel home too often, so when we have the chance it means the world. We want our kids, Isaac and Abi, to know their family and to build relationship with them even though we’re far away.
So, even though I don’t have a heap of testimonies from the school to share with you, good things happened in Indiana. It was a special time, and the fact that we got to preach and teach was the best! Thank you for EVERYTHING!
We just started our final quarter of the year for 2018, the students are back at school again, and good things are to come!

Good Sunday morning!
Brigit and I are very excited about our trip to the US. We are actually leaving for San Jose tomorrow (a day early) because we have some meetings with the Ministry of Education and also the US Embassy.
We really covet your prayers for our travel safety. There is a major strike going on in Cost Rica right now between the government and the general population. Many bridges have been closed by protesters. So we are relying on the FAVOR of God to get us through to the airport without issue - thanks for praying.
If you haven't made plans to attend one of the services we are going to be at, please try to! We would LOVE to see you while in the US.
Please let us know how we can pray for you. We pray for our partners regularly and would love to have the opportunity to be more specific when praying for you personally!
Blessings from Central America!
Scott, Brigit, Abi and Isaac

August 2018
I hope this message finds you doing well!
First things first! I’ve been feeling a real urgency to share the Gospel with families where we live…like I haven’t before. Of course, we all know the time is short…no doubt! But there’s a new urgency, especially where we live. It’s exciting. As God points them out, Scott and I make a special effort to reach out. It’s fun when you know from the Lord that they’re ready!
We recently had Mother’s Day celebrations at both schools, and it was a really nice time for the ladies. We did more than just pray for the group at the end of our event in Uvita…we shared verses from the Bible and even “preached” just a little, as we felt the Holy Spirit leading. I’m confident that God was working in those moments, and still is. You see, around here, non-Christians have the craziest ideas about who our God really is…they feel like He’s all about rules, really distant, and not even relative to life today. They think He’s out of date, old and antiquated. As we know, He’s not! I often feel like it’s my mission to “expose Him” for Who He really is.
In addition to our recent celebration, God has brought lots of new students to our schools, both here in Uvita, and at our second location in San Isidro. There are so many little stories about how kids are feeling God’s love. For example, in Uvita, we have a new 1st grade student who went home from school telling his mom how much love he feels at UCA…he went on and on about how much he loves his teacher, and never wants to leave. The love of God is something he can feel! We have another 1st grader who said he prayed during our last vacation, and after he did, God answered his prayer and his behavior changed almost overnight. (He was a kiddo who had lots of behavioral problems, and it was really tough on teachers.) They are so excited about the change!
Soon, you’ll have the chance to see a teaching I’ve posted on YouTube just for TOFM partners. We will let you know when you can check it out!

July 2018
Scott and I are thinking of you today, and most days, to be honest! You are an important part of what we do, and without you, it wouldn’t be possible. I believe our Lord has a word for you today:
“Don’t stop believing, says the Lord. I am with you! Some of you have felt like I’m far away, even out of touch, but here I am! says the Lord. I am your very present help in time of need, but there are those of you who do not take the time to turn aside and listen to what I have to say. But it’s never too late - in fact, now is the time! Seize this day, says the Lord. Shut out things that would distract you, and give yourself to me, because I always have the answer, and I always know the way. Some of you look to leadership outside of the church - even to the ungodly, and those who don’t call upon the Name of my Son, Jesus. Stop! I’m the way, the truth, and the life, and what you’re looking for you will not find outside of Me and My Word. Start fresh today - it’s a new day, and I’m still with you. Incline your ear to me, and I won’t disappoint you, says the Lord. Don’t hesitate, not for another minute! Shut off the TV, or whatever voice distracts you from being interested in My presence…for times are coming when you will need to know my voice, what I sound like, and what I have to say. In a moment’s notice, you will need to know what I think, and which way to go. Remember, I am the Lord, your personal God, who cares for you.”
I realize this isn’t normally what we write about, but it’s what I felt to do this time. The short message above may not pertain to you, but I feel it does pertain to some of you. We appreciate you! We believe God is working in your lives, and you need to know He’s on your side. He plans for you to succeed in all you lay your hand to (Deut. 28).
About our Christian schools in Costa Rica: we’re looking for land for our school, and we believe we’ve found what we want. So, we’re seeking God’s leading about how to move forward. We’re also seeking approval for our schools from the Costa Rican Ministry of Education - it’s a process that involves lots of paperwork and stamps of approval, but God is with us, and step by step we’re getting it done. A testimony from Victory Christian Academy: recently, a family joined our school even though the mother said she is an atheist. In fact, in the beginning she told our director that her daughter wouldn’t be coming to chapel on Fridays, because she doesn’t want her to learn “that stuff.” Well, thank God, after getting to know our school, our director, Sharon, and feeling the love we put out there, her daughter is now allowed to pray in the name of Jesus and be a part of any of our school activities. We thank God for this! It’s a pretty big deal.
Thanks for your continued trust! We’re really getting excited to come to Indiana this September…we hope to see you face to face in a church in our area! We plan to share the Word of God, and also talk about God’s vision in us for Costa Rica in the churches we visit. God bless you, and see you soon!

As I write to you this morning, I am thinking about the verse where Jesus said "the kingdom of God suffers violence, but the violent take it by force." We definitely have the opportunity to destroy the plans of the enemy down here - and it is not always easy - but I will tell you we have learned to get quiet before the Lord and He gives us strength, wisdom and direction - praise God!
We are strategically advancing the kingdom in Costa Rica. The Lord has shown us to build His empire down here. Our vision is BIG, and it is impossible....but not with Jesus!
I would like to share with you one of the next big steps we need to take as we "take this land by force" in the spirit. We are believing God for $900 for our school to join an international christian organization for schools. https://www.acsi.org/
This is above and beyond our monthly budget. So please join us in petitioning the Lord for these funds. I am confident He will bring it to pass speedily.
As always, thank you for your continued prayers and financial partnership. TOGETHER, we are impacting the next generation for Jesus Christ!
All our love,
Scott, Brigit, Isaac and Abigail
As I write to you this morning, I am thinking about the verse where Jesus said "the kingdom of God suffers violence, but the violent take it by force." We definitely have the opportunity to destroy the plans of the enemy down here - and it is not always easy - but I will tell you we have learned to get quiet before the Lord and He gives us strength, wisdom and direction - praise God!

All is well here in Costa Rica! God is good, and many exciting things are happening.
In the last month, our students have been on vacation from school…but we’ve been working hard to get things ready for them to return. At the beginning of a new quarter, we always try to motivate our staff by reminding them about the awesome ministry they have as teachers. They have so much influence, and kids see their example in the midst of all kinds of daily situations - some of which can be tough! Your giving helps to support these teachers, as they strive to live a right life before their students.
As you know, we always work hard to teach our students about Jesus, and the love of God. Just before the last break during our chapel services, there were kids who made Jesus their Lord! Because it was closer to Easter at the time, we made a big effort to share a simple, Gospel message with the kids, being sure everything was easy to understand. Scott shared with one group of students, and I shared with a second, younger group. He had 5 kids raise their hand at the end of the service to give their lives to God! In my group, nearly all of the 22 students there that day wanted to accept Jesus, too. Obviously, we were EXCITED! After all, having the platform to share the love of God is one of the biggest reasons we are here. Thanks for celebrating this with us! You have a part in it, and we are grateful!

I hope your day is going well!
I have to be honest, sometimes I find it difficult to know what to write in these monthly letters. There are SO MANY amazing things that happen around here in 30 days - it is hard to decide what to share with you! I could literally fill up a notebook with stories...
With that said, let me tell you what is big in my heart. Our community is full of really nice people...good people. So many of them are giving, caring and willing to help you out with anything you need. The common element in so many of their lives is that they are missing a REAL, living relationship with Jesus.
Brigit and I marvel at how hard it must be for people to go through life without hope in Him...without the leading and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Oh how we need Him!!
Our greatest desire is to live a life before this community that glorifies God and that opens the door for us to share the gospel with them. It is happening on a regular basis. Lives are being changed - and you truly are a part of it because you pray and give to TOFM.
**The Future** - I will share more in the near future, but we have located some land that would work very well for the construction of a new school building for our Uvita campus. The owner is asking $250,000 for the ground (9,300 square meters).
I would like to ask you to join us in prayer in regard to seeking the Lord if this is the ground He wants us to believe for. Would you do that please?
Thank you so much - please feel free to write me back - we love to hear about all of the things going on in your life too! Blessings!
All our love,
Scott, Brigit, Isaac and Abigail

Good day!
It has been a busy month as we launched out sixth year of school in Costa Rica. Good things are happening, but we can always use your prayers.
Our main prayer request is for the right staffing and a full student enrollment. These two elements make for a great year! ;-)
Please let us know how we can pray for you too.
A few weeks ago we held an Open House for the realtors in our area so that they would know how to properly share our school with new families to the area. Check out this article that was recently written by a realty firm in our area about UCA:http://www.osatropicalproperties.com/uncategorized/uvita-christian-academy-costa-ballenas-bilingual-k-12-school-heart/
Have a great weekend! Thank you for your prayer and financial support...it means a great deal to us, and to the students you help attend the school!

January 2018
Good afternoon!
It is the beginning of the year, and we are EXCITED!
During a time of prayer, the Lord spoke to us that this is the year of “Establishment” for our ministry in Costa Rica. Brigit and I have been digging into the Word over the last 18 months like never before in our lives. The Holy Spirit is revealing things to us that are super-charging our faith.
Soon we are going to launch something very special for our partners…for nearly 20 years our partners have sowed prayer and finances into TOFM to the end that the lost get saved. The Lord has been stirring our hearts to begin to share some of the things He is teaching us on our own Touch of Fire Ministries YouTube channel. Brigit is going to have a channel dedicated to the ladies under the name Created to Conquer. Then, together we will put out a regular video update with things that are happening in Costa Rica followed up by a teaching from the Word of God. We hope you are as excited as we are about this!
We don’t yet have the dates worked out, but we will travel to the US half-way through the year and will be booking dates at churches to come share about all that the Lord is doing down here. If you have interest in us coming to share, please let me know soon because the dates will fill quickly.
PRAYER REQUESTS
~ Full enrollment at our schools. We are believing and declaring the following:
• 25 students at Victory Christian Academy by January 22nd
• 60 students at Uvita Christian Academy by January 29th
Will you please join us in this very important petition?
As always, let us know how we can pray for you and your family. We pray for our partners regularly – but specific prayer is always best!
All our love,
Scott, Brigit, Isaac and Abigail
