Money! / El Dinero!

We’ve got to start here:

"Beloved, I would that you would prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers." 3 John 2.

Wait a minute, I thought you were going to tell me about how to have more money, Brigit? Well, we have to take care of first things first. Because too many Christians find a few verses to support them getting something they really need or want to have, but they neglect and pay no attention to a foundational truth we find in the Bible.

You see, money can ruin us if we go after riches like the world does. Have you ever known someone who came into a lot of money? Either by inheritance or maybe they won the lottery?  Your jaw might’ve dropped when you heard about the huge sum of money they ended up with. You probably thought something like, “Wow, I want that to happen to me!” But then a couple years later, maybe even sooner, they had NOTHING. And maybe even a mountain of debt to go with their nothing. Not a good place to be!

The promise of Bible prosperity and “having things” we can liken to the Bible promise of living in and having good physical health. Read the verse above one more time. God wants us to PROSPER and be in good health, even as our SOUL PROSPERS. Soul prosperity means growing up in the things of God…spending time with the Lord every day, and going after the things that are important to Him. Things like, showing love to other people, and caring about their needs (there are lots more, but let’s start there). Throw in asking others to forgive you if you’re hurtful. You’re getting it - going after and valuing the things that are a big idea to God.

We’ve got to put time and effort into those things…and then we are eligible for God to start increasing us and what we have! And it’s not just the idea of “accumulating things” so that you have bragging rights and constantly make a big deal out of all the cool things you’ve got. No, it’s more like this: “The motivation for our accumulation is distribution.” Pastor George of Eagle Mountain International Church in Texas said that. It’s true. God wants us to have money, so that we can share it and do nice things for others when we want to or when He asks us to do it.  Pretty cool.

Here’s the heart of the matter—if you want to have wealth that’s described in the Bible, get busy growing up! Go after the things of God (Matthew 6:33), know what matters to Him most.

“Amado, quisiera que tú prosperaras y tuvieras buena salud, así como prospera tu alma.” (1 Juan 2) 
Espera un momento, pensé que me ibas a contar cómo tener más dinero, Brigit? Bueno, primero tenemos que ocuparnos de lo primero. Porque muchos cristianos encuentran algunos versículosque los ayudan a obtener algo que realmente necesitan o quieren tener, pero descuidan y no prestan atención a una verdad fundamental que encontramos en la Biblia.

El dinero puede arruinarnos si buscamos riquezas como lo hace el mundo. ¿Has conocido aalguien que haya ganado mucho dinero? ¿Ya sea por herencia o tal vez les tocó la lotería? Es posible que se haya bien sorprendido cuando se escuchó de la enorme suma de dinero que ganaron. Probablemente pensaste algo como: "¡Guau, quiero que eso me pase a mí!" Pero un par de años después, tal vez incluso antes, no tienen NADA. Y tal vez incluso una montaña de deudas junto con su nada. ¡No es un buen lugar para estar!

La promesa bíblica de prosperidad y “tener cosas” podemos compararla con la promesa bíblicade vivir y tener buena salud física. Lea el versículo anterior una vez más. Dios quiere que PROSPEREMOS y tengamos buena salud, así como nuestra ALMA PROSPERA. La prosperidad del alma significa crecer en las cosas de Dios... pasar tiempo con el Señor todos losdías y perseguir las cosas que son importantes para El. Cosas como mostrar amor a otraspersonas y preocuparse por sus necesidades (hay muchas más, pero comencemos por ahí). Agregue pedirles a los demás que lo perdonen si se siente herido. Ahora lo estás entendiendo: persigue y valora las cosas que son una gran idea para Dios. 
Tenemos que dedicar tiempo y esfuerzo a esas cosas... ¡y luego seremos elegibles para que Dios comience a aumentarnos a nosotros y a lo que tenemos! Y no se trata sólo de la idea de “acumular cosas” para tener derecho a fanfarronear. No, es más bien esto: "La motivación de nuestra acumulación es la distribución.” El pastor George de la Iglesia Internacional Eagle Mountain en Texas dijo eso. Es cierto. Dios quiere que tengamos dinero, para que podamoscompartirlo y hacer cosas buenas por los demás cuando queramos y cuando Él nos lo pida. Muygenial.

Aquí está el punto: si quieres tener la riqueza que se describe en la Biblia, ¡ocúpate de crecer! ¡Piensan en y hagan las cosas que le importa a Dios (Mateo 6:33)!
