Chapter 5: Me and My Money

Does God really want my money? Does He need it? To give you a short answer, no. God is not trying to get all your money. It’s more like He’s trying to GET SOMETHING TO YOU through your personal giving. In fact, YOU NEED to give to God through tithing in order to activate the covenant you have with Him. Tithing means giving 10% of your gross income on a regular basis to the place where you go to church, or to a Christian organization that’s helping you, or helping others to find the Lord. (And offering the tithe is really just the beginning of giving on your part…)

Here’s the part you need to understand: when YOU TITHE, you activate YOUR COVENANT with Almighty God. When that covenant is activated, there are certain things you become entitled to see happen in your life.

Have you ever felt like your money’s always disappearing? It comes into your account through a paycheck, but then because of car repairs, school bills, and other needs it gets sucked up? It’s like your money bag has holes! You want to save, but you’re never able to because your hard-earned cash is always flying out the window! Well, that’s really frustrating. So let me teach you about what’s going on. Let’s look at Malachi 3:8-12. Even though it’s from the Old Testament, it still counts for today:

Will a man rob or defraud God? Yet you rob and defraud Me. But you say, In what way do we rob or defraud You? [You have withheld your] tithes and offerings.

You are cursed with the curse, for you are robbing Me, even this whole nation.

Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

And I will rebuke the devourer…for your sakes and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground, neither shall your vine drop its fruit before the time in the field, says the Lord of hosts.
And all nations shall call you happy and blessed, for you shall be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.

First things first here. God says we are automatically cursed with a curse when we don’t honor Him with our cash. It’s pretty easy to understand. You can go to Deuteronomy 28 to read more about the curse, but don’t do that just now. Let’s keep talking about the tithe. It might be surprising for you to see that God says we are robbing Him when we don’t give tithes and offerings. But that’s exactly what’s happening.

Some people say they won’t give because they don’t trust the pastor. Or they don’t trust the smooth-talking TV evangelist. But take men out of the equation. God says we are robbing HIM when we don’t tithe; it has nothing to do with the pastor of your church and what he does or does not do with the money. When you offer the tithe, you are giving directly to God and it’s counted that way in heaven. In fact, a COVENANT is activated where your relationship with God is concerned WHEN YOU TITHE.

¿De verdad, Dios quiere mi dinero? ¿Lo necesita? Para darle una respuesta corta, no. Dios no está tratando de quitarle todo su dinero. Es más como Dios quiere que OBTENGAS ALGO a través de tu donación personal. De hecho, USTED NECESITA darle a Dios a través del diezmopara poder activar el pacto que tiene con Él. Diezmar significa dar el 10% de tus ingresos brutosde forma regular al lugar donde vas a la iglesia, o a una organización cristiana que te estéayudando a ti o a otros a encontrar al Señor. (Y ofrecer el diezmo es en realidad solo el comienzode dar de tu parte…)

Esta es la parte que debes entender: cuando DIEZMAS, activas TU PACTO con Dios Todopoderoso. Cuando ese pacto se activa, hay ciertas cosas que tienes derecho a que sucedan entu vida.

¿Has sentido que tu dinero siempre está desapareciendo? ¿Llega a su cuenta a través de un cheque de pago, pero luego, debido a las reparaciones del carro, las facturas escolares y otrasnecesidades, se absorbe? ¡Es como tu bolsa de dinero tuviera huecos! Quiere ahorrar, pero nuncapuede hacerlo porque el dinero que tanto le costó ganar siempre se va volando por la ventana. Bueno, eso es muy frustrante. Así que déjame enseñarte lo que está pasando. Miremos Malaquías3:8-12. Aunque es del Antiguo Testamento, todavía cuenta para hoy:

¿Robará o defraudará un hombre a Dios? Sin embargo, me robas y defraudas. Pero decís: ¿De quémanera te robamos o defraudamos? [Has retenido tus] diezmos y ofrendas.

Estáis malditos con la maldición, porque me estáis robando, incluso esta nación entera.

Que trae todos los diezmos (el décimo de vuestras entradas) al alfolí, para que haya alimento en mi casa, y pruebame ahora en ello, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, si no os abriré las ventanas de los cielos y derramar sobre vosotros bendición, hasta que sobreabunde para recibirla.

Y reprenderé al devorador… por amor a vosotros y no destruirá los frutos de vuestra tierra, nivuestra vid dejará caer su fruto antes de tiempo en el campo, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.

Y todas las naciones os llamarán dichosos y bienaventurados, porque seréis tierra de delicias, dice Jehováde los ejércitos. (Mal 3:8-12)

Lo primero es lo primero aquí. Dios dice que automáticamente somos maldecidos con unamaldición cuando no lo honramos con nuestro dinero. Es bastante fácil de entender. Puedes ir a Deuteronomio 28 para leer más sobre la maldición, pero no lo hagas ahora. Sigamos hablandodel diezmo. Quizás te sorprenda ver que Dios dice que le estamos robando cuando no damosdiezmos y ofrendas. Pero eso es exactamente lo que está pasando.

Algunas personas dicen que no darán porque no confían en el pastor. O no confían en elevangelista de la tele que habla con suavidad. Pero saque a los hombres de la historia. Dios dice que le estamos robando cuando no diezmamos; no tiene nada que ver con el pastor de tu iglesia y lo que hace o no hace con el dinero. Cuando ofreces el diezmo, estás dando directamente a Dios y se cuenta de esa manera en el cielo. De hecho, se activa su PACTO con Dios CUANDO DIEZMAS.

When you tithe, God says He will open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing you’re not able to contain! He says the devourer will be rebuked for your sake, and that your vine will not drop its fruit before the appointed time in the field.

Those are some heavy promises! But what does that mean?

If the devourer is rebuked, think about it like this: your kitchen appliances and your car won’t be breaking down all the time. Your money won’t get eaten up on dumb things that seem to come from nowhere. Your family can be healthy and stay healthy because of this promise. I’ve known a couple of women who have suffered miscarriage after miscarriage latch onto the promise that “your vine will not drop its fruit before the appointed time.” Once discovered, appropriating this promise by believing it’s true and saying it’s true has given them a successful pregnancy with a full-term delivery!

Let’s dig even deeper.

Think about what it would mean if the windows of heaven were literally opened over your life! It would mean you could own your own home, own your own car, and not be in debt. It would mean you could give to ANYONE, at ANY TIME, and for ANY REASON you decide is a good reason. It would mean special vacations with your family, and the ability to pay cash for things that would make your life more enjoyable. You would be able to help someone have a needed operation, or help a family in need buy a new refrigerator. You’re definitely not limited to those ideas, but these are the kinds of things I think about.

I often use my imagination to “see myself” with the things promised in the Bible. In this case, I often take time to see myself with the good things God is offering, if only I’ll do my part and continually keep my covenant with God activated.

Will you activate your covenant today? There are so many nagging doubts and reasons not to…believe me, if you’re not accustomed to tithing and giving satan will definitely try to fill your mind with all the reasons it’s just a bad idea. But don’t be a fool and stop there. Press past your feelings in order to make the right choice today.

A lot of Christians struggle with their faith because they don’t see the promises of God happen for THEM—but they don’t meet the basic requirements. Giving the tithe is a basic, minimal requirement. The devourer is not rebuked when you don’t tithe. The windows of heaven cannot be opened when you don’t tithe. There is no blessing poured out when you don’t tithe.

Cuando diezmas, Dios dice que abrirá las ventanas de los cielos para ti y derramará sobre ti unabendición que no podrás contener. Dice que el devorador será reprendido por tu causa, y que tuvid no dejará caer su fruto antes del tiempo señalado en el campo.

¡Son promesas muy fuertes! Pero, ¿qué significa eso?

Si el devorador es reprendido, piénsalo de esta manera: tus electrodomésticos de cocina y tu auto no se estropearán todo el tiempo. Tu dinero no se lo comerán las cosas tontas que parecen surgirde la nada. Tu familia puede estar sana y mantenerse sana gracias a esta promesa. He conocido a un par de mujeres que han sufrido abortos espontáneos tras abortos espontáneos y se aferran a la promesa de que “tu vid no dejará caer su fruto antes del tiempo señalado.” Una vez descubierta, la apropiación de esta promesa creyendo que es verdad y diciendo que es verdad les ha dado un embarazo exitoso con un parto a término.

Profundicemos aún más.

Piensa en lo que significaría si las ventanas de los cielos se abrieran literalmente sobre tu vida. Significaría que podrías ser dueño de tu propia casa, de tu propio auto y no estar endeudado. Significaría que podrías darle a CUALQUIERA, EN CUALQUIER MOMENTO y porCUALQUIER RAZÓN que consideres buena. Significaría vacaciones especiales con tu familia y la capacidad de pagar en efectivo por cosas que harían tu vida más agradable. Podrías ayudar aalguien a tener una operación necesaria o ayudar a una familia necesitada a comprar un refrigerador nuevo. Definitivamente no estás limitado a esas ideas, pero este es el tipo de cosasen las que pienso.

A menudo uso mi imaginación para "verme" con las cosas prometidas en la Biblia. En este caso, a menudo me tomo el tiempo para verme con las cosas buenas que Dios está ofreciendo, si tan solo hago mi parte y mantengo continuamente mi pacto con Dios activado.

¿Activarás tu pacto hoy? Hay tantas dudas y razones persistentes para no hacerlo... créame, si no está acostumbrado a diezmar y dar ofrendas, Satanás definitivamente intentará llenar su mentecon todas las razones por las que es una mala idea. Pero no sea así y se detenga allí. Deje de ladosus sentimientos para tomar la decisión correcta hoy.

Muchos cristianos luchan con su fe porque no ven que las promesas de Dios se cumplen para ELLOS, pero no cumplen con los requisitos básicos. Dar el diezmo es un requisito básico y mínimo. El devorador no es reprendido cuando usted no diezma. Las ventanas de los cielos no se pueden abrir cuando usted no diezma. No se derrama ninguna bendición cuando usted no diezma.
