***Below is an excerpt from a new book I’m writing called, “Mistaken Identity: God is Not Your Problem.”
Chapter 2: God is Good…but wait…is He? So, why is it hard for people to believe that God is a good God? Why do Christian people have such a hard time seeing and believing this truth? Throughout the Bible, beginning in the Old Testament and continuing through the New Testament, we see promise after promise of God doing amazing things for the people He loves! We see him showing favor (Genesis 12:1-2), meeting needs (Philippians 4:19), and promising that He listens to the prayers we pray and that He answers them (Mark 11:24)! So when something bad or difficult happens, why do people forget about all of that and exchange the truth for a lie? How is that so easy to do? In other words, why do we automatically assume God is behind the inconvenience? Why do we assume it’s Him doing something to test us or teach us? Where exactly does that idea come from? Start listening to the conversation around you on purpose—it always amazes me that believers will go to bat for things like an early death, personal poverty, general failure in life, and so many other ideas that go against the nature and desire of our EXTREMELY GOOD God. How do I know they feel this way? Because I listen to what people say. I like to observe Christians and non-Christians in my daily life…no matter where I am. I like to listen to the kinds of things they say, but especially when they’re talking about God, and their perception of what He’s like. I pay a lot of attention because I have a deep passion to dispel all the nasty rumors about Him, and Who He really is. There are times when I’m not even TRYING to do it! But it’s often like the Holy Spirit (who lives inside me) will CAUSE me to hear certain comments and ideas people share. Again, I’m talking about believers who are committed to God, AND those who are not. But both groups matter quite a bit, because if someone thinks God is a jerk (someone who’s bent on his personal failure, and is nothing more than an obscure being waiting to swat him down when he makes a mistake) there can be no desire to belong to Him. There will be no longing for the Father of Lights (James 1:17), who LOVES human beings so much that He sent His own Son, Jesus, to experience hell in their place. Let’s read it below. Every good gift and every perfect…gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light… (James 1:17 AMPC). This is just one verse among many, many verses that share the same idea, but it alone tells the story! Good and perfect gifts come from God—not the ugly and difficult situations that are hard to bear. Would you do bad things to your kids or grandkids? I think not! Well, God is the same—He wouldn’t serve up an ugly situation to one of His kids on purpose either. If you wouldn’t do it to yours, you can KNOW that He wouldn’t do it to you! ******************************************************* ***A continuación se muestra un extracto de un nuevo libro que estoy escribiendo llamado “Identidad equivocada: Dios no es tu problema”. Entonces, ¿por qué a la gente le resulta difícil creer que Dios es un Dios bueno? ¿Por qué a loscristianos les resulta tan difícil ver y creer esta verdad? Empiece a escuchar la conversación a su alrededor a propósito; siempre me sorprende que loscreyentes se pongan manos a la obra por cosas como una muerte prematura, la pobreza personal, el fracaso general en la vida y tantas otras ideas que van en contra de la naturaleza y el deseo de nuestro EXTREMADAMENTE Dios bueno. ¿Cómo sé que se sienten así? Porque escucho lo que dice la gente. Me gusta observar a cristianos y no cristianos en mi vida diaria… sin importar dónde esté. Me gusta escuchar el tipo de cosas que dicen, pero especialmente cuando hablan de Dios y supercepción de cómo es Él. Presto mucha atención porque tengo una profunda pasión por disipartodos los rumores desagradables sobre Él y quién es realmente. ¡Hay momentos en los que nisiquiera INTENTO hacerlo! Pero a menudo es como si el Espíritu Santo (que vive dentro de mí) me CAUSA escuchar ciertos comentarios e ideas que la gente comparte. Nuevamente, me refiero a los creyentes que están comprometidos con Dios y a los que no lo están. Pero ambos grupos importan bastante, porque si alguien piensa que Dios es un imbécil(alguien que está empeñado en su fracaso personal y no es más que un ser oscuro esperandoaplastarlo cuando comete un error), no puede haber ningún deseo de pertenecer a Él. No habráañoranza por el Padre de las Luces (Santiago 1:17), quien AMA tanto a los seres humanos que envió a Su propio Hijo, Jesús, a experimentar el infierno en su lugar. Leámoslo a continuación. Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto… viene de arriba; desciende del Padre de todo [que da] luz… (Santiago 1:17 AMPC). Este es sólo un verso entre muchos, muchos versos que comparten la misma idea, ¡pero por sísolo cuenta la historia! Los dones buenos y perfectos provienen de Dios, no las situaciones feas y difíciles que son duros de soportar. ¿Le harías cosas malas a tus hijos o nietos? ¡Yo creo que no! Bueno, Dios es el mismo: él tampoco le ofrecería una situación desagradable a uno de Sus hijos a propósito. ¡Si no lo harías con los tuyos, puedes SABER que Él no te lo haría a ti!

These are dangerous times, for a lot of different reasons…there is TROUBLE in the world today like we’ve never seen it before. Divorce is at an all-time high, leaving kids stranded emotionally…they’re depressed, anxious, worried, and vow never to get married because of what they went through when their parents split up. Suicide is rampant in most every age group, but especially in our younger generations. Even though we’re more connected than ever through FaceBook and Instagram, we’ve never been farther apart emotionally and in the ways that matter in a society. People need face-to-face community and connection, and to feel like they belong. Dads are dipping out on their families, leaving the wives of their youth for a younger, less wrinkled version of the ideal woman. They are leaving a generation fatherless and forlorn. Moms leave too sometimes. Substance use and abuse is sky-rocketing, especially the use of recreational drugs like marijuana. Making it legal to smoke marijuana isn’t doing us any favors. It can act like a depressant that steals motivation and dumbs down its users, leaving them unmotivated and short on aspiration. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and what it can do to young people who get caught in its clutches. We need to be clear on the things of God more than ever before! We need to have the truth about this topic, and find out Who God really is, and what He’s about. If you mistakenly think God is out there doing bad things, then it impacts your whole life…the way you see God, the way you view life in general, and what you perceive to be the will of God. Because of all the problems raging in today’s world, we need God more than ever before! So we can’t afford to know less than the absolute truth. If any generation feels like He’s against them instead of for them, they will never turn to Him to get the help they need. I don’t mean to sound dreadful or terrifying at all, but this is a topic that deserves a closer look. ___________________________ Estos son tiempos peligrosos, por muchas razones diferentes... hoy hay PROBLEMAS en elmundo como nunca antes. El divorcio está en su punto más alto, dejando a los niños varadosemocionalmente... están deprimidos, ansiosos, preocupados y prometen no casarse nunca debidoa lo que pasaron cuando sus padres se separaron. El suicidio está muy extendido en casi todos los grupos de edad, pero especialmente en nuestrasgeneraciones más jóvenes. Aunque estamos más conectados que nunca a través de FaceBook e Instagram, nunca hemos estado tan separados emocionalmente y en las formas que importan enuna sociedad. Las personas necesitan comunidad y conexión cara a cara, y sentir que pertenecen. Demasiados padres están dejando a sus familias, dejando a las esposas de su juventud por unaversión más joven y menos arrugada de la mujer ideal. Están dejando a una generacióndesamparada y sin padre. Las mamás también se van a veces. El uso y abuso de sustancias se está disparando, especialmente el uso de drogas recreativas comola marihuana. Legalizar el consumo de marihuana no nos está haciendo ningún favor. Puedeactuar como un depresor que roba la motivación y embrutece a sus usuarios, dejándolosdesmotivados y sin aspiraciones. Lo he visto con mis propios ojos y lo que puede hacerles a losjóvenes que quedan atrapados en sus garras. ¡Necesitamos tener claro las cosas de Dios más que nunca! Necesitamos conocer la verdad sobreeste tema y descubrir quién es Dios realmente y de qué se trata. Si piensas erróneamente que Dios está ahí afuera haciendo cosas malas, entonces esto impactará toda tu vida... la forma enque ves a Dios, la forma en que ves la vida en general y lo que percibes como la voluntad de Dios. Debido a todos los problemas que azotan el mundo de hoy, ¡necesitamos a Dios más que nunca! Por eso no podemos darnos el lujo de saber menos que la verdad absoluta. Si alguna generaciónsiente que Él está en contra de ellos en lugar de a favor de ellos, nunca recurrirán a Él para obtener la ayuda y la sanidad que necesitan. No quiero sonar espantoso o aterrador en absoluto, pero este es un tema que mereceinvestigación. |
