GIFTS of the Holy Spirit: the GIFT of SPEAKING in OTHER TONGUES, and the INTERPRETATION of TONGUES4/24/2024 Part 2:
This is a gift in operation in my life…so, I’ve got some experience with this one and can share a couple of stories! Remember, speaking and praying in tongues (in your own prayer language) when you receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit, is different from the GIFT of speaking in other tongues, as mentioned above. It’s the will of God for every believer to be filled with the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in other tongues (Acts 2, 10, 19). You need this prayer language, because when you pray in tongues, you can pray the perfect will of God (even if you don’t know the right words in English). (Romans 8:26) There have been quite a few times when I’m in a group together with other believers, and I feel the Holy Spirit prompting me that I have a tongue to share which will need to be interpreted. I sometimes feel I have the interpretation, but there are times I can remember when I knew that I didn’t have it. The Word tells me that I shouldn’t share the message in tongues, unless I know that another person is present in the meeting who can interpret. (1 Cor. 14:28) I won’t lie—there have been times when I’ve felt silly giving a message in tongues! No one wants to seem strange, especially in front of other people. But get this! This is pretty cool—my husband has an aunt who was living overseas many years ago because Scott’s Uncle Steve was in the military. She was at a Bible study on the military base, and at the end of the prayer time, she just had this urge she couldn’t resist to pray out loud in another tongue. She felt kind of silly, but she gave in to the urge she had, knowing it had to be from God (it was a very strong urge). So, Scott’s aunt started praying out loud so that all others could hear…she told us that the tongue was a VERY distinct language that she had never heard before. But when she finished, an Asian woman attending the Bible study said that Aunt Kathleen had just prayed a perfect prayer in Japanese. This lady was so touched by the way Kathleen praised and lifted up God in that prayer. Maybe it had been a long time since she had spoken with another person in her language, so theprayer was encouraging to her. God knows what we need! Look into the GIFTS of the HOLY SPIRIT! Remember, these are dynamic workings of power that God created to help us! They are of God, and belong to believers TODAY! _____________________________ Parte 2: DONES del Espíritu Santo: el DON de HABLAR en OTRAS LENGUAS y la INTERPRETACIÓN de LENGUAS Este es un don que está funcionando en mi vida... así que tengo algo de experiencia con este y puedo compartir un par de historias. Recuerde, hablar y orar en lenguas (en su propio idioma de oración) cuando recibe el Don del Espíritu Santo, es diferente al DON de hablar en otras lenguas, como se mencionó anteriormente. Es la voluntad de Dios que cada creyente sea lleno del Espíritu Santo, con la evidencia de hablaren otras lenguas (Hechos 2, 10, 19). Necesitas esta lengua de oración, porque cuando oras enlenguas, puedes orar la perfecta voluntad de Dios (incluso si no sabes las palabras correctas eninglés). (Romanos 8:26) Ha sido muchas ocasiones en las que estoy en un grupo con otros creyentes y siento que elEspíritu Santo me indica que tengo una lengua para compartir que necesitará ser interpretada. La Palabra me dice que no debo compartir el mensaje en lenguas, a menos que sepa que hay otra persona presente en la reunión que pueda interpretar. (1 Cor. 14:28) No mentiré: ¡he tenido ocasiones en las que me he sentido extraña al dar un mensaje en lenguas! No hay nadie que quiere parecer extraño, especialmente en frente de otras personas. ¡Pero escucha esto! Esto es genial: mi esposo tiene una tía que vivía en el extranjero hace muchos añosporque el tío Steve de Scott estaba en el ejército. Su tía estaba en un estudio bíblico en la base militar y, al final del tiempo de oración, sintió el impulso que no pudo resistir de orar en voz altaen otra lengua. Se sintió un poco extraña, pero cedió al impulso que tenía, sabiendo que tenía que ser de Dios (era un impulso muy fuerte). Entonces, Kathleen comenzó a orar en voz alta para que todos los demás pudieran escuchar... nosdijo que la lengua era un lenguaje MUY distinto que nunca antes había escuchado. Pero cuandoterminó, una mujer de Asia que asistía al estudio bíblico dijo que la tía Kathleen acababa de hacer una oración perfecta en su idioma nativo. La señora quedó muy conmovida por la forma enque Kathleen alabó y exaltó a Dios en esa oración. Tal vez ha pasado mucho tiempo desde que había hablado con otra persona en su idioma, y la mujer fue muy bendecida por la oración. ¡Dios sabe lo que necesitamos! ¡Piensen en los DONES del ESPÍRITU SANTO! Recuerde, ¡éstas son obras dinámicas de poderque Dios creó para ayudarnos! ¡Son de Dios y pertenecen a los creyentes HOY!

GIFTS of the Holy Spirit: the GIFT of SPEAKING in OTHER TONGUES, and the INTERPRETATION of TONGUES4/17/2024 I don’t think there’s ever been more CONTROVERSY about anything else!
It seems people are always at odds about these two gifts, contending that they just don’t exist anymore. I’ve heard and read before that these passed away with the 12 disciples, and that they were needed in their day but not in ours. There are some who say that Christians moving or operating in these gifts are doing it under the power of the devil—they think it’s him at work! But wait a minute! I’ve seen, heard, and participated in groups where these gifts HAVE BEEN in action. I’ve witnessed where, in operation, a lot of people get healed and blessed because someone interpreted tongues that were given in a Christian meeting. We can’t throw out the baby with the bath water. And you should decide for yourself! Don’t be religiously brainwashed, based on someone else’s opinion. Instead, be New Testament taught about these gifts of the Holy Spirit, and others. Find the Word of God on this issue and then move forward. If you’re desperate right now, I sure wouldn’t write off ANYTHING! Desperation often brings us to the place where we’re willing to hear and search for the truth, even if it’s not popular with the masses. I’ve learned it’s probably best not to criticize and judge the things you’re just not sure about; it’s better to keep your mouth closed on those issues. We should probably say little about the things we don’t understand. Moreover, it’s NOT THE JOB of any believer to make fun of other believers. What am I talking about? We’ve all seen them…those YouTube videos where someone is making fun of or calling evil a Christian, saying he or she is creepy and weird, or that Satan is working through them, and not God. Truth is, we shouldn’t be judging our brothers and sisters in Christ at all—much less displaying our sin on platforms for the world to see. How disorganized and out of harmony we must look to people on the outside! When in fact, we’re supposed to be known by the love we have for one another. Think about it. Next week, I’ll share how myself and others I know have moved in these gifts, and the great results that came because of it. _______________________ Parte 1: DONES del Espíritu Santo: el DON de HABLAR en OTRAS LENGUAS y la INTERPRETACIÓN de LENGUAS ¡Ay, la CONTROVERSIA sobre este asunto! Parece que la gente siempre está en desacuerdo acerca de estos dos dones, sosteniendo que simplemente ya no existen. He escuchado y leído antes que estos fallecieron con los 12 discípulos, y que eran necesarios en su época pero no en los nuestros. Hay algunos que dicen que los cristianos que se mueven u operan con estos dones lo hacen bajo el poder del diablo: ¡piensanque es él quien está obrando! ¡Pero espera un minuto! He visto, oído y participado en grupos donde estos dones HAN ESTADO en acción. He sido testigo de cómo, durante la operación, muchas personas son sanadas y bendecidas porque alguien interpretó lenguas que se dieron en una reunión cristiana. ¡Y deberías decidir por ti mismo! Nunca es una buena idea para arreglar su vida basado en la opinión de otra persona. En lugar de eso, se les enseñará el Nuevo Testamento acerca de estosdones del Espíritu Santo y otros. Encuentre la Palabra de Dios sobre este tema y luego sigaadelante. Si estás desesperado en este momento, ¡seguro que no descartaría NADA! La verdad es que no deberíamos juzgar a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo en absoluto, y mucho menos mostrar nuestro pecado en plataformas para que el mundo lo vea. ¡Cuándesorganizados y carentes de armonía debemos parecer ante la gente de afuera! Cuando, enrealidad, se supone que debemos ser conocidos por el amor que nos tenemos unos a otros. Piénsalo. La próxima semana, compartiré cómo yo y otras personas que conozco hemos logrado estosdones y los excelentes resultados que se obtuvieron gracias a ello. Boy, am I grateful for this GIFT! What exactly does it mean? This gift in operation lets you know whom you can trust, and whom you shouldn’t. But it’s not limited to that. Some who operate in this gift say that they’ve seen angels at different times, or even demons, because they operate in the GIFT of DISCERNING of SPIRITS. PLEASE keep in mind that not many believers actually see into the spirit realm like that, and you definitely shouldn’t go after those experiences. (We never chase after those experiences or seek to hear voices—we chase after God).
There is a natural realm where we all live as human beings, but also there is a spirit realm (or the unseen realm). We don’t see things in this spirit realm with our human eyes, but it’s no less real than what we do see with our eyes. Honestly, this is not a gift that operates in my life very often; BUT there is one really notableexperience I can share with you. I believe God allowed me to see into the spirit realm about 16 years ago, when Scott and I were pastors of a local church in the US. I needed to have quick insight, and He gave it to me! Here’s what happened: Basically, there was someone in our group who was always trying to stir up trouble, and to turn people against each other. They were never happy, and seemed to like it when people were at odds with each other. This particular person had just decided to leave the church, along with their whole family. We didn’t want them to leave because we always hoped that things could be worked out. However, we also breathed a sigh of relief because we knew the trouble would leave with the person! On a particular Sunday, a new family visited us for the first time. I didn’t have the chance to talk with this husband and wife before our meeting started, but at the end I talked with the wife. As soon as we locked eyes in conversation, I saw beyond her face—almost right through her. I saw the face of a really ugly creature, a distorted and eerie face, and knew something important right away. The spirit at work in the family who just left our church, was the same spirit at work in this new family who had just arrived. It’s like I saw all of that in an instant. Why did I need to know that? Well, I believe it was a warning for me. God was showing me that I needed to be careful, and He wanted me to know the kind of family I was dealing with. You might ask…Brigit, doesn’t God love that family? Of course, He does! And we welcomed them with open arms—but I had just been through a REALLY HARD time with the family who left, and felt a little worn out by the drama. It’s like God was giving me a heads up about the situation we were walking into. It might sound a little strange to you, but what He allowed me to see really helped me. In all of this we should remember that our battle, whatever it involves, is NOT against other people; it involves the SPIRITS AT WORK through other people often times. (Ephesians 6:12) Isn’t it exciting to know that God wants to HELP YOU when He ASKS YOU to do something? He had asked us to become pastors, and we did that. Then He was right there to help us along the way. ______________________ DONES del Espíritu Santo: el DON del DISCERNIMIENTO de los ESPÍRITUS ¡Estoy agradecida por este DON! ¿Qué significa exactamente? Este don en funcionamiento tepermite saber en quién puedes confiar y en quién no. Pero no se limita a eso. Algunos que operanen este don dicen que han visto ángeles en diferentes momentos, o incluso demonios, porqueoperan en el DON del DISCERNIMIENTO de LOS ESPÍRITUS. POR FAVOR, tenga en cuentaque no muchos creyentes realmente ven el reino espiritual de esa manera, y definitivamente no debería buscar esas experiencias. (Nunca perseguimos esas experiencias ni buscamos escucharvoces; perseguimos a Dios). Hay un reino natural donde todos vivimos como seres humanos, pero también hay un reinoespiritual (o el reino invisible). No vemos cosas en este reino espiritual con nuestros ojoshumanos, pero no es menos real que lo que vemos con nuestros ojos. Sinceramente, este no es un don que opere en mi vida mucho; PERO, hay una experienciarealmente notable que puedo compartir contigo. Creo que Dios me permitió ver el reinoespiritual hace unos 16 años, cuando Scott y yo éramos pastores de una iglesia local en losEstados Unidos. Necesitaba saber algo de una manera rápida, ¡y Él me la dio! Esto es lo que pasó: Básicamente, había alguien en nuestro grupo que siempre estaba tratando de provocar problemas. Nunca estaba feliz y parecía gustar cuando las personas estaban en desacuerdo. Esta persona enparticular acababa de decidir abandonar la iglesia, junto con toda su familia. No queríamos que se fueran, porque siempre esperábamos que las cosas se pudieran arreglar. Sin embargo, tambiéndimos un suspiro de alivio porque sabíamos que el problema se iría con la persona. Un domingo particular, una nueva familia nos visitó por primera vez. No tuve la oportunidad de hablar con este hombre y su esposa antes de que comenzará nuestra reunión, pero al final hablécon la esposa. Tan pronto como nos miramos a los ojos en la conversación, vi más allá de su rostro, casi a través de ella. Vi el rostro de una criatura realmente fea, un rostro distorsionado y misterioso, y supe algo importante de inmediato. El espíritu que obraba en la familia que acababa de dejarnuestra iglesia, era el mismo espíritu que obraba en esta nueva familia que acababa de llegar. Es como si viera todo eso en un instante. ¿Por qué necesitaba saber eso? Bueno, creo que fue una advertencia para mí. Dios me estabamostrando que debía tener cuidado y quería que supiera el tipo de familia con la que estabatratando. Quizás te preguntes… Brigit, ¿no ama Dios a esa familia? ¡Por supuesto, que lo hace! Y los recibimos con los brazos abiertos, pero yo acababa de pasar por un momentoREALMENTE DIFÍCIL con la familia que se fue y me sentí un poco agotado por el drama. Es como Dios me estuviera avisando sobre la situación en la que estábamos entrando. Puede ser que te suene un poco extraño, pero lo que Él me permitió ver realmente me ayudó. En todo esto debemos recordar que nuestra batalla, sea lo que sea, NO es contra otras personas; muchas veces involucra los ESPÍRITUS TRABAJANDO a través de otras personas. (Ephesios6:12) ¿No es emocionante saber que Dios quiere AYUDARTE cuando TE PIDE que hagas algo? Élnos había pedido que fuéramos pastores y lo hicimos. Entonces Él estuvo ahí para ayudarnos enel camino. A prophetic word can be, but isn’t always, something about the future. In fact, when I’ve heard someone prophecy (or give a word from God) it’s been more along these lines:
But [on the other hand], the one who prophesies [who interprets the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching] speaks to men for their upbuilding and constructive spiritual progress and encouragement and consolation. (1 Corinthians 14:3) So, when someone shares with you individually or with a group of people and says they have a prophetic word, it’s supposed to edify, encourage, and bring consolation to the one listening. Isn’t that beautiful? Think about it…how many times have you needed someone to lift you up a bit? Or to encourage you or console you? Well then, why are so many out there today afraid of this GIFT and others? Hopefully, when we realize the beauty of it and what God wants to do THROUGH this GIFT, it removes wrong ideasabout prophecy being weird and scary. God doesn’t just have love, he IS LOVE! I think He really wants to reach out to His people through this gift. So be open to it! Here’s what’s happened to me through this gift: A pastor told me one time, as he felt the Holy Spirit was leading him, that the gift of prophecy would operate in my life…he said, “One day, it will flow out of you like a river!” Well, in that moment, I honestly wasn’t sure what to think. But it’s true! When I’m praying, there are times when I will feel nudged to share this or that with someone I know, or even someone I don’t know, and it’s exciting! It’s usually something that encourages them, and gives them hope…sometimes though, it’s a call to action…to forgive, to stop doing something, or to start doing something else. But it’s always motivated by love and concern for that person, and what they’re facing. Another time, when we were in Peru, one of our group leaders told me that she felt like I had a gift for speaking that God wanted to work through to touch people. Well, it made me feel so good! I was about 23 years old, and it lifted me up! I really enjoy speaking and communicating, and feel the happiest when I’m doing that! Just one more…years ago when I was really struggling with some severe anxiety, fear, and worry…I was visiting the church of a friend named Koni in the state of Louisiana. The pastor there called me out in front of the entire crowd (in a good way!) He said that he had a prophetic word for me, and spoke paragraphs over my life…about how I would make it to the other side, and be able to later help others going through the same situation. And it’s turned out to be true! To sum it up, in every example above, I was really encouraged and consoled by the prophetic word that was given to me. It always lifted me up, and that’s the purpose of this gift. _________________________ Un segundo mensaje…DONES del Espíritu Santo: DON de PROFECÍA - Mi Propia Vida Una palabra profética puede ser, pero no siempre es, algo sobre el futuro. De hecho, cuando he escuchado a alguien profetizar (o dar una palabra de Dios) ha sido más en esta línea: Pero [por otro lado], el que profetiza [que interpreta la voluntad y el propósito divino en la predicación y enseñanza inspirada] habla a los hombres para su progreso espiritual edificante y constructivo, para su aliento y consuelo. (1 Corintios 14:3) Entonces, cuando alguien comparte contigo individualmente o con un grupo de personas y dice que tiene una palabra profética, se supone que debe edificar, animar y traer consuelo a quien la escucha. ¿No es hermoso? Piénsalo... ¿cuántas veces has necesitado que alguien te levante un poco? ¿O para animarte o consolarte? Entonces, ¿por qué tanta gente hoy en día tiene miedo de este DON y de otros? Cuando nosdemos cuenta de su belleza y de lo que Dios quiere hacer A TRAVÉS de este DON, eliminaremos algunas ideas erróneas de que la profecía es extraña. Dios no sólo tiene amor, ¡ÉL ES AMOR! Creo que Él realmente quiere tocar a Su pueblo a través de este don. ¡Así que esté abierto a ello! Esto es lo que me pasó a través de este DON: Un pastor me dijo una vez, mientras sentía que el Espíritu Santo lo estaba guiando, que el don de profecía operaría en mi vida... dijo: “¡Un día, fluirá de ti como un río!” Bueno, en ese momento, sinceramente, no estaba seguro de qué pensar. ¡Pero es verdad! Cuando estoy orando, hay momentos en los que me siento impulsado a compartir esto o aquello con alguien que conozco, o incluso alguien que no conozco, ¡y es emocionante! Generalmente es algo que los alienta y les da esperanza... sin embargo, a veces es un llamado a la acción... a perdonar, a dejar de hacer algo oa comenzar a hacer otra cosa. Pero siempre está motivado por el amor y la preocupación por esapersona y por lo que enfrenta. En otra ocasión, cuando estábamos en Perú, una de las líderes de nuestro grupo me dijo que sentía que yo tenía un don para hablar y que Dios quería utilizarlo para tocar a las personas. Bueno, ¡me hizo sentir tan bien! ¡Yo tenía 23 años y me levantó! Hoy en día, disfruto de hablar y comunicarme, ¡y me siento más feliz cuando lo hago! Sólo uno más... hace años, cuando estaba luchando contra una gran ansiedad, miedo y preocupación... estaba visitando la iglesia de una amiga mía, Koni, del estado de Louisiana. El pastor de allí me llamó frente a toda la multitud (¡en el buen sentido!). Dijo que tuvo una palabra profética para mí y habló párrafos sobre mi vida… sobre cómo llegaría al otro lado y luegopodría ayudar a otros que estaban pasando por la misma situación. ¡Y resultó ser verdad! Para resumir, en cada ejemplo anterior la palabra profética que me fue regalado realmente me animó y consoló. Me hizo sentir mejor, y es el propósito de este DON. |
