First, I want to say this…I know that some of you may have been disappointed or even hurt because of well-meaning people who were “pentecostal” or “charismatic” who maybe misused the gifts I’ve been writing about, or interpreted them the wrong way. Maybe somebody gave you a “prophetic word” one time, and you did exactly what they said because you trusted them to share a message from God…and it really messed up your life.
If this is you, let me share a little piece of wisdom where this gift is concerned—if ANYONE ever comes up to you and says they have a “Word from God” for you, it SHOULD ALWAYS bear witness and “feel right” on the inside before you take it to heart (before you act on it). Like, it should really confirm something that God was already talking with you about in the days or weeks before. And even then, don’t do ANYTHING in HASTE. Be slow and methodical. Don’t try to MAKE something happen, but rather LET it happen in your life. If a prophetic word is true and really from God, you won’t have to MAKE anything happen. It will naturally, right when it’s supposed to. If you’ve been hurt, I don’t believe anyone was intentionally trying to hurt you; they were more likely learning about the gifts, and probably felt pressure to say something flashy! That stuff happens. Forgive them and go on. Don’t let one or maybe a few misuses of divine gifts turn you off forever. They are still for the world today, and people need to hear personal, divinely inspired messages from God, in groups and individually. This is my favorite GIFT of the Holy Spirit. I operate in this gift myself, but I can’t turn it on and turn it off. And it can never be used as a tool to show off to others. In fact, I really don’t like to draw attention to myself on purpose. So, when God gives me a prophetic word for someone or for a group of people, it takes a little courage and coaxing for me to get up and do it, depending on the crowd around me. Next week, I’ll give you some examples of how this gift works in my own life, and how I’ve seen it work through others. Remember, people are NOT PERFECT; but yet God depends on US to share the good news about Jesus in the world today. In fact, if we don’t do it, the job won’t get done. And so it is withthe gifts. If we’re not open to hearing from God for others, there are lots of important things that won’t be said. Godly direction that won’t be given, and worse, people who won’t come to Jesus and be saved. _______________________________________________ DONES del Espíritu Santo: el DON de PROFECÍA Primero, quiero decir esto... sé que existe la posibilidad que algunos de ustedes han sidodecepcionados o heridos debido a personas bien intencionadas que eran “pentecostales” o “carismáticas” que tal vez usaron mal los dones sobre los que he estado escribiendo, o interpretaron ellos de manera equivocada. Tal vez alguien te dio una “palabra profética” una vez, e hiciste exactamente lo que te dijeron porque confiaste en que ellos compartirían un mensaje de Dios… y eso realmente arruinó tu vida. Si eres tú, permíteme compartir un poco de sabiduría en cuánto a este don: si ALGUIEN algunavez se te acerca y te dice que tiene una “Palabra de Dios” para ti, SIEMPRE DEBE dartestimonio y “sentirte bien” en el interior antes de tomarlo en serio (antes de actuar enconsecuencia). Realmente debería confirmar algo de lo que Dios ya estaba hablando contigo enlos días o semanas anteriores. Y aun así, no hagas NADA a toda prisa. Sea lento y metódico. No intentes HACER que algo suceda, sino DEJA que suceda en tu vida. Si una palabra profética es verdadera y realmente de Dios, no tendrás que HACER que suceda nada. Lo hará naturalmente, según el reloj de Dios. Si te han lastimado, no creo que nadie haya intentado lastimarte intencionalmente; es másprobable que estaban aprendiendo de los dones y probablemente se sentía presionados a decirmuy creativo! Eso sucede. Perdónalos y continúa. No permitas que uno o quizás algunos usosindebidos de los dones divinos te desanimen para siempre. Todavía son para el mundo de hoy, y la gente necesita escuchar mensajes personales y divinamente inspirados de Dios, en grupos e individualmente. Este es mi DON favorito del Espíritu Santo. Yo misma opero con este don, pero no puedo encenderlo y apagarlo. Y nunca podrá utilizarse como herramienta para presumir ante los demás. De hecho, no me gusta llamar la atención a propósito. Entonces, cuando Dios me da una palabra profética para alguien o para un grupo de personas, se necesita un poco de coraje y persuasión para levantarme y hacerlo, dependiendo de la multitudque me rodea. La próxima semana les daré algunos ejemplos de cómo funciona este don en mi propia vida y cómo lo he visto funcionar a través de otras personas. Recuerde, las personas NO son PERFECTAS; pero, aun así, Dios depende de nosotros para compartir las buenas noticias sobre Jesús en el mundo de hoy. So, when we talk about this gift in operation, people mostly think of someone getting healed from a sickness or disease—and it’s true, this gift does mean that someone can get healed from a sickness. But there’s even more to it than that. There can be a money miracle, if someone needs help with getting some money. If someone is addicted to drugs or cigarettes, and they are freed from the addiction, that’s also a MIRACLE. These are just a few I can think of right now. But people usually think of what I would call a healing miracle. And we are so FORTUNATE that God does these things today! He DEFINITELY WORKS through a believer, filled with the Holy Spirit, who operates in this gift. I’ve seen it happen like that with my very own eyes.
But it’s important for me to say here that there are other methods of receiving healing too. I will talk about them quickly. ~Sick people can be healed and receive from God based on SAYING. Take a look at Mark 11:23. Yes, even though this might be new to you, we can receive from God by SAYING. And we say something with our mouths because we believe it from the heart. I’ve done this many times and have seen results. ~I can also be healed based on the Word of God by asking Him in prayer. I base this on Mark 11:24. According to this verse, I can ask God and then I need to BELIEVE I RECEIVE what I asked for. If I truly believe I HAVE RECEIVED something from God, then I won’t talk like I’m sick any more. If a friend asks how I’m doing, I won’t list all the things that are wrong with me. Why? Because I believe I’m healed and there’s not a need to do that stuff anymore. Okay, back to the GIFT of MIRACLES. In my OWN LIFE, this is what I’ve seen play out: More than 15 years ago, Scott and I used to travel the world to share our faith. We would take teams of college-age kids and adults from our church overseas to hold huge, outdoor events. During these events, we shared a really simple message about the life of Jesus: what He came to the earth to do, and how He was raised from the dead before being taken to Heaven where He now sits at the right hand of God. We would see MIRACLES after sharing these things about Jesus. In fact, someone smarter than I am said, “Miracles are the dinner bell for salvation.” What does that mean? It means that miracles prove that God is real, and when you see a miracle, it’s hard to say no to God. These miracles usually involved another person getting healed…whether it was a tumor falling off, a mute person speaking again, or the like. How INCREDIBLE, right? People who had lost hearing would be able to hear again. Crippled people would be able to walk again. Even people who had opened the door to demonic activity in their lives were suddenly free from that darkness. Isn’t it comforting to know that God is REAL? And that what the Bible says is REAL? I find a lot of strength in that. MIRACLES are for us today too, no matter where we live. But we definitely have to believe that this gift, and the others, are still for us TODAY! Do you need a MIRACLE today? Maybe you’re not sick, but you still need a miracle. Maybe you need a money miracle or you have a son or daughter hooked on drugs. Well, MIRACLES are still for us today. ************************************************************************** DONES del Espíritu Santo: el DON de los MILAGROS Cuando hablamos de este don en operación, la gente piensa principalmente en alguien que se cura de una enfermedad o dolencia, y es cierto, este don sí significa que alguien puede sanarse de una enfermedad. Pero hay aún más que eso. Puede haber un milagro monetario si alguiennecesita ayuda para conseguir algo de dinero. Si alguien es adicto a las drogas o al cigarrillo y se libera de la adicción, eso también es un MILAGRO. Estos son sólo algunos de los que se me ocurren ahora mismo. Pero la gente normalmente piensa en lo que yo llamaría un milagro de sanidad. ¡Y somos tan AFORTUNADOS de que Dios haga estas cosas hoy! ÉlDEFINITIVAMENTE OBRA a través de un creyente, lleno del Espíritu Santo, que opera en estedon. Lo he visto suceder así con mis propios ojos. Pero es importante para mí decir aquí que también existen otros métodos para recibir sanidad. Hablaré de ellos rápidamente. ~Las personas enfermas pueden ser sanadas y recibir de Dios en base al DECIR. Eche un vistazoa Marcos 11:23. Sí, aunque pueda ser un concepto nuevo para ti, podemos recibir de Dios al DECIR. Y decimos algo con la boca porque lo creemos de corazón. He hecho esto muchas vecesy he visto resultados. ~También puedo ser sanada según la Palabra de Dios pidiéndolo en oración. Me baso en Marcos 11:24. Según este versículo, puedo pedirle a Dios y luego necesito CREER QUE RECIBO lo que pedí. Si realmente creo que HE RECIBIDO algo de Dios, entonces ya no hablaré como siestuviera enferma. Si un amigo me pregunta cómo estoy, no enumeraré todas las cosas que me van mal. ¿Por qué? Porque creo que estoy sanada y que ya no hay necesidad de hacer esas cosas. Bien, volvamos al DON de LOS MILAGROS. En mi PROPIA VIDA, esto es lo que he visto suceder: Hace más de 15 años, Scott y yo viajábamos por el mundo para compartir nuestra fe. Llevábamos equipos de niños en edad universitaria y adultos de nuestra iglesia al extranjero para realizar grandes eventos al aire libre. Durante estos eventos, compartimos un mensaje realmentesimple sobre la vida de Jesús: qué vino a la tierra para cumplir y cómo resucitó de entre losmuertos antes de ser llevado al cielo, donde ahora está sentado a la diestra de Dios. Veríamos MILAGROS después de compartir estas cosas sobre Jesús. De hecho, alguien másinteligente que yo dijo: "Los milagros son la campana de la salvación". ¿Qué significa eso? Significa que los milagros prueban que Dios es real, y cuando ves un milagro, es difícil decirleno a Dios. Estos milagros generalmente implicaban que otra persona fuera sanada... un tumor que se caía, o una persona muda que volvía a hablar o cosas similares. Qué INCREÍBLE, ¿verdad? Las personas que habían perdido la audición podrían volver a oír. Los lisiados podrían volver a caminar. Incluso las personas que habían abierto la puerta a la actividad demoníaca en sus vidasse vieron repentinamente libres de esa oscuridad. ¡Qué lindo es saber que Dios es REAL! Encuentro mucha fuerza en saber que la Biblia es real. LOS MILAGROS también son para nosotros hoy, sin importar dónde vivamos. ¡Pero definitivamente tenemos que creer que este don, y los demás, todavía están para nosotros HOY! ¿Necesitas un MILAGRO hoy? Quizás no estés enfermo, pero aun así necesitas un milagro. Tal vez necesites un milagro monetario o tengas un hijo o una hija adicto a las drogas. Bueno, losMILAGROS todavía están para nosotros hoy. The GIFT of FAITH…where will it take you? The GIFT of FAITH literally got us to Costa Rica, in the face of all kinds of opposition. We ended up starting two Christian schools there, which are still in operation! The gift didn’t fail!
From the moment we KNEW it was what God wanted for us to move, we still had a lot to do—it wasn’t an overnight change. We had a house to sell, a couple of cars, and lots of stuff to find a new home for. Family members didn’t want us to go. There were friends to leave behind, and a lot that we had to let go of. BUT, there was a whole lot that we gained (that’s a story for a different time!). Despite all the naysayers and opposition, we held on. Looking back, we can see that the GIFT of FAITH was working for us. Otherwise, we would’ve given up ten times, to say the least. When we think about all the negative comments, flowing tears, and people who doubted what we were doing, it would have been a normal reaction to just throw in the towel. But because of the GIFT of FAITH in operation through us, that thought never even crossed our minds. When we think about that time in our lives, we often look back and wonder why we didn’t just let the dream die—after all, the deck was stacked against us, so to speak. Let me give you some details. When our house went on the market, NO ONE WAS BUYING anything. People kept saying we would NEVER sell our house. But this is what I did because of the GIFT of FAITH. As a way for me to take action to support what I was saying and believing, I started cleaning out our closets, selling some furniture, and giving some things away. In fact, we hosted a huge garage sale where we sold so many things. During that sale, a lady I had never met walked over to me at the pay table and handed me a check for $500 to help us move overseas. A family member was sitting by, and it was what she needed to see, too! Our realtor came to show our house 22 times before anyone showed interest…that’s a lot of house-cleaning, ladies! It seemed like the house would never sell, but we KNEW IT WOULD. Again, the GIFT of FAITH in action. It never crossed my mind that we wouldn’t get it sold. Around that time, a friend of mine named Jill shared a prophetic word with me, and this is what she said: “Don’t give up! At the exact right time, the house will sell and everything else will sell along with the house. In other words, it will all come together at the same time.” Well, no matter how confident we feel, we can all use a little faith boost! And that’s exactly what my friend did for me when she shared that prophetic word, through the GIFT of PROPHECY (we will save that gift for later!). According to that prophetic word, everything happened. Someone who came to see the house a while back, wanted to come again. Suddenly, we had families interested in buying our two cars. Those were the big ticket items that needed to go, and they went! The rest is history. Sincerely, I thank God for the GIFT of FAITH. So, this GIFT of FAITH is in operation when you just believe you can do something God is asking you to do, but there is really no human way it can happen. There is nothing in your life showing the evidence that you can do what you intend to do. Yet, you believe whole-heartedly it will come to pass! And because you believe that, you move in that direction with your time and actions. ___________________________________________ DONES del Espíritu Santo: el DON de la FE El DON de la FE… ¿adónde te llevará? El DON de la FE literalmente nos llevó a Costa Rica, frente a todo tipo de oposición. Fundamos dos escuelas cristianas allí, que todavía están enoperación.¡El don no falló! Desde el momento en que SABÍAMOS que era lo que Dios quería que nos moviéramos, todavíateníamos mucho por hacer; no fue un cambio rápido. Teníamos una casa para vender, un par de autos y muchas cosas para las que encontrar un nuevo hogar. Los familiares no querían que fuéramos. Había amigos para dejar atrás y muchas cosas que teníamos que dejar atrás. PERO, ganamos mucho (¡esa es una historia para otra época!). A pesar de todos los detractores y la oposición, resistimos. Mirando hacia atrás, podemos ver que el DON de la FE estabafuncionando para nosotros. De lo contrario, nos habríamos rendido diez veces, por decir lo menos. Cuando pensamos en todos los comentarios negativos, las lágrimas que fluyeron y las personas que dudaban de lo que estábamos haciendo, hubiera sido una reacción normal simplemente para rendirnos. Pero debido al DON de la FE que operaba a través de nosotros, ese pensamiento ni siquiera pasó por nuestra mente. Cuando pensamos en ese momento de nuestras vidas, a menudo miramos hacia atrás y nospreguntamos por qué no dejamos morir el sueño; después de todo, todo estaba trabajando contra nosotros. Déjame darte algunos detalles. Cuando nuestra casa salió al mercado, NADIE COMPRABA nada. La gente seguía diciendo que NUNCA venderíamos nuestra casa. Pero esto es lo que hice gracias al DON de la FE. Como unamanera de tomar medidas para apoyar lo que decía y creía, comencé a limpiar nuestros armarios, vender algunos muebles y regalar algunas cosas. De hecho, organizamos una gran venta de garaje en la que vendimos muchas cosas. Durante esa venta, una señora que nunca habíaconocido se acercó a mí en la mesa de pagos y me entregó un cheque por $500 para ayudarnos a mudarnos. ¡Un miembro de la familia estaba sentado y era lo que ella también necesitaba ver! Nuestro agente de bienes raíces vino a mostrar nuestra casa 22 veces antes de que alguienmostrará interés... ¡eso es mucha limpieza de la casa, señoras! Parecía que la casa nunca se vendería, pero SABÍAMOS QUE LO HARÍA. Nuevamente, el REGALO de la FE en acción. Nunca se me pasó por la cabeza que no lo venderíamos. Por esa época, una amiga mía que se llama a Jill compartió conmigo una palabra profética y esto fue lo que dijo: “¡No te rindas! En elmomento exacto, la casa se venderá y todo lo demás se venderá junto con la casa. En otraspalabras, todo se unirá al mismo tiempo.” Bueno, no importa cuán seguros nos sintamos, todospueden aceptar una palabra de ánimo, verdad? Y eso es exactamente lo que mi amiga hizo por mícuando compartió esa palabra profética, a través del DON de PROFECÍA (¡guardaremos ese donpara más adelante!). Según esa palabra profética, todo sucedió. Alguien que vino a ver la casa hace un tiempo, queríavolver. De repente, teníamos familias interesadas en comprar nuestros dos autos. Esos eran losartículos más caros que debían eliminarse, ¡y se eliminaron! El resto es historia. Sinceramente doy gracias a Dios por el DON de la FE. Entonces, este DON de la FE está enoperación cuando simplemente crees que puedes hacer algo que Dios te pide que hagas, pero enrealidad no existe una manera humana de que esto pueda suceder. No hay nada en tu vida que muestre evidencia de que puedes hacer lo que te propones hacer. ¡Sin embargo, usted cree de todo corazón que esto sucederá! Y porque crees eso, avanzas en esa dirección con tu tiempo y acciones. I’ve seen this one happen mostly when I’m in a group of believers, like in a church meeting. In the church setting someone who operates in this gift will go to the pastor, and share something like this:
“I believe God is speaking to me that someone here today has a terrible headache, and God wants to heal them.” OR “God is telling me that someone here is going through an awful divorce, and you’re wondering how things are going to turn out. If you’ll turn to God today, He says He will make all things new.” The pastor can then decide if that is the leading of the Lord, and he can announce it to the group (or let the person give the word of knowledge) if he trusts the source. So, the WORD of KNOWLEDGE has a place in the church world, for sure. In fact, God intended that it be a gift in operation…why? Because if you’re the person with the terrible headache, and someone you don’t know or haven’t shared with goes to the front of the church and gives that WORD of KNOWLEDGE, then you know it’s God speaking…because no one else could’ve known what you’re facing. Only God. These gifts are ALWAYS intended to draw the unbeliever to Jesus. (1 Cor. 14:24-25). Remember, the WORD of KNOWLEDGE is not only for inside the church walls…it’s for everyday life, too, as you go about hoping to win people and show them how they should follow Jesus. In my own life, here are some ways the WORD of KNOWLEDGE has operated: I was a teacher in our schools for several years, and I would often know when kids were cheating, copying others’ work, etc. How did I know? Through the WORD of KNOWLEDGE. Suddenly, I would have knowledge of their cheating, without knowing it from a human source. The Holy Spirit would tell me. I did not know because I saw someone cheating with my own two eyes…no, I knew because the of the WORD of KNOWLEDGE. I am also part of our administrative team, and through the WORD of KNOWLEDGE I often know when teachers or families are deciding to leave the school. Again, I don’t know because someone told me—I only know because God tells me about it, through the WORD of KNOWLEDGE. Now, I should be clear about this—GOD DOES NOT share with me things that would be hurtful to another person. Knowing things like this is not something I can turn on and off at will. If He decides to share something with me, then He does it. But God is not in the business of spreading dirty secrets about other people, no…nothing like that. If I lose my car keys, or misplace something else, I often know where they are after asking Him for help…and via the WORD of KNOWLEDGE, I suddenly know where I left them. My husband has been trying to fix/repair something before, and even though it was tripping him up for hours, after asking God for help he has “suddenly known” exactly what to do because of the WORD of KNOWLEDGE. Remember, God doesn’t show favoritism at all—what He’s done for me, He wants to do for you too! _______________________________ DONES del Espíritu Santo: PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO He visto que esto sucede principalmente cuando estoy en un grupo de creyentes, como en unareunión de la iglesia. En la iglesia, alguien que opera en este don irá al pastor y le compartiráalgo como esto: “Creo que Dios me está hablando de que alguien aquí hoy tiene un dolor de cabeza terrible y Dios quiere sanarlo”. O “Dios me está diciendo que alguien aquí está pasando por un divorcio terrible y no sabe cómovan a resultar las cosas. Si hoy recurres a Dios, Él dice que hará nuevas todas las cosas”. El pastor entonces puede decidir si esa es la dirección del Señor, y puede anunciarlo al grupo (o la persona que recibió el mensaje puede compartir) si el pastor confía en la fuente. Entonces, la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO tiene un lugar en el mundo de la iglesia, con seguridad. De hecho, Dios quiere que sea un don en operación… ¿por qué? Porque si eres la persona con el terrible dolor de cabeza, y alguien que no conoces o con quien no has compartidova al frente de la iglesia y da esa PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO, entonces sabes que es Dios hablando... porque nadie más sabe lo que estás enfrentando. Solo Dios. Estos dones SIEMPRE tienen como objetivo atraer personas a Jesús. (1 Cor. 14:24-25). Recuerde, la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO no es sólo para dentro de los muros de la iglesia... es también para la vida cotidiana, mientras espera ganar personas y mostrarles cómodeben seguir a Jesús. En mi propia vida, aquí hay algunas formas en que ha operado la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO: Fui profesora en nuestras escuelas durante varios años y, a menudo, sabía cuándo los niñosestaban haciendo trampa, copiando el trabajo de otros, etc. ¿Cómo lo sabía? A través de la PALABRA del CONOCIMIENTO. De repente, tendría conocimiento de sus trampas, sin saberlode una fuente humana. El Espíritu Santo me lo diría. No lo sabía porque vi a alguien haciendotrampa con mis propios ojos… no, lo sabía por la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO. También, soy parte de nuestro equipo administrativo, y a través de la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO muchas veces sé cuando los maestros o las familias deciden abandonar la escuela. Nuevamente, no lo sé porque alguien me lo dice; solo lo sé porque Dios me lo dice, a través de la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO. Ahora, debo ser clara acerca de esto: DIOS NO comparte conmigo cosas que serían equivocadaso en error para compartir. Y este conocimiento no es algo que puedo activar y desactivar a voluntad. Si Él decide compartir algo conmigo, entonces lo hace. Pero Dios no está en el negociode difundir secretos privados sobre otras personas, no… nada de eso. Si pierdo las llaves de mi auto o algo así, a menudo sé dónde están después de pedirle ayuda... y a través de la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO, de repente sé dónde las dejé. Mi esposo ha estado tratando de arreglar/reparar algo, y aunque lo estuvo haciendo durante horassin éxito, después de pedirle ayuda a Dios, “de repente supo” exactamente qué hacer debido a la PALABRA de CONOCIMIENTO. Recuerde, Dios no muestra ningún favoritismo: ¡lo que ha hecho por mí, también quiere hacerpor usted! |
